Hi all,

As you all know, 2017 is the 50th anniversary since the introduction of the Camaro, and I am wondering if there are any plans for a celebration?

The Mustang Owners club hired out a race track for the day and had vendors etc attend, which was a massive undertaking and massive investment. Of course the MOC is a much different beast, they have almost 6000 members on the forum and thousands who pay a yearly subscription so are much much bigger, but that doesn't stop us celebrating!

Perhaps we have our own smaller event, maybe in-conjunction with the Firebird owners club (if there is one!) or even at a stretch TA owners club, or nominate one of the existing events that already takes place to be our official/unofficial get-together. Who knows, one of the events might be more than happy to be used for the 50th anniversary and even lead the celebrations! :)

What do you all think?

Excellent idea!

I like the idea of latching onto an existing event as we tend to have low numbers. All though, a dedicated track day would be nice :) Technicality question - which year would the celebration be, 2016 or 2017? I would say 2016, as the Camaro launched in the back half of 1966, but was referred to as the '67 model. "It went on sale on September 29, 1966, for the 1967 model year" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Camaro

There are proposals for joining in on the Santa Pod Run What You Brung days throughout the year. Think it would be nicer to do something on a track where we're all on at the same time? Maybe we can find an existing track day and ask really nicely if they can set aside a 20 minute session where only Camaro's are allowed on? We can then setup an area in the car park or something where we can get all the cars in one place?

Chevy Stu is a seasoned track day man, perhaps he has some good suggestions of tracks? I guess something midlands based would be best for everyone?

What time of year would be best?

Where possible, a photo sharing service can be used such as Flickr, Imgur etc. The image location (usually ending in .jpg) can be copy and pasted between the ][ brackets that appear when you click the 'Img' button (you can find this button at the top of the message box).

How to post youtube vids: Click on the 'youtubeHD' button at the top of the message box and in the middle of the ][ brackets that just appeared, copy and paste everything from the youtube web address that appears after the = sign i.e if this is the url: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2cNqaPSHv0 just copy "K2cNqaPSHv0").

Yeah you are right it should be during this year!

It doesn't have to be anything major, but something a bit more active than the usual standing in a field would be nice. Track day might be expensive, so perhaps a nice jaunt in a convoy from here to there with the standing round in a field after.

Could even use something like the London to Brighton run :)

As for location, depends on where our biggest demographic is, and who is interested. I would suggest either down south to encapsulate the most people (if that's true!) Or the Midlands to try and make it possible for those to attend who don't live down South!

Well for some reason my work anti-virus classifies this website as porn or similar.... So I don't post quite so often!

Anyway, I few weeks ago I contacted Chevrolet Europe to find if they were having any kind of celebration for the 50th anniversary of the Camaro. Turns out they are not, but they did mention a few things:

1. We might want to discuss with the official dealer of Chevrolet in the UK (www.ianallanmotors.com) who might have an interest to promote the latest Camaro's
2. There will be a special edition Camaro to commemorate which will be available to buy in September, but that dealers my have it as early as May/June
3. If we do arrange something (ie our own celebration at an existing event) then we can let them know and they will make a decision on if it is worth supporting.

So while pleasant to talk to there wasn't much interest. What is everyone's thoughts on this, should we try and have a bit of a gathering to celebrate?

Oh Oddball where do I start without sounding like a grumpy middle aged git ;)
Love your enthusiasm for trying to get something going for the Anniversary kind of remind me of myself 5yrs ago trying to get us all together as well
I think the biggest factor is there's only a handful of us that use this place regularly
Another surprise was last month at billings AACI Spring opener than many of the bow tie guys I spoke to didn't even know this place was born even under the old web name !!
Even with everyone that is on here they will defiantly know about speedfest in a few weeks time and would have known for months n months as its been promoted as our get together for the last 2 yrs now
But I will guarantee you there will be 8 to 10 of us there on Sunday which to me is a poor turnout but that's better than nothing !!!
I know not everyone's on the road , work an family stuff gets in the way etc etc but yes I'd like the idea of doing something and will support it like I do with all the shows ,because I know that if we all didn't go there would be no shows to go to

Being new to Camaro ownership I am still trying to catch up on what is going on, where and when so that I can start planning things into my calendar. and unfortunately my current work schedule/commitments has precluded any weekends away until the end of June otherwise i would have loved to come down to speed fest.

If something is sorted for this as a get together of club members i will make sure to keep the date free at work.
