Heater matrix arrived. Spent yesterday on the 3rd gen changing the steering out, and various other admin bits on Saturday, so no time to fit it just yet.

UPS overcharged me (£30 for fees on a £67 consignment. I actually phoned them on Thursday when i got the email through that delivery was due, explaining that 20% of £67 is ~£13. They mentioned there is a brokerage fee of £11 but that still means i'm overpaying by £6. The lady said that she would adjust the fee and waiver the brokerage fee as i was the only nice person to have phoned all week, which was great, except it didn't happen, so back on the phone to them today...

The thing I don't understand is how can courier companies charge a brokerage or handling fee ?
I appreciate they deal with delivering this side of the pond, but surely it should be part of the UK side courier charge, that you've already paid for when you buy something and pay full shipping.

I remember buying a guitar or something from the US and received the Parcel Farce/UPS/DHL whoever letter, and realised I was near Heathrow in the next few days (where I knew the package flew in to), and told them to send it back to customs as I'll pick it up myself and wasn't paying their charge... They refused of course and I ended up collecting it from their airport depot with no 'handling fee'...

I don't get it either. Well, i kind of do - it's just a way for them to make money. Which is an unfair way as you've already paid them for shipping, as you say. It's a bit like helping a little old lady across the street and telling her half way across that it'll be £1 to carry on to get the other half. I get that they have an admin cost as they need to work out (which is done via 'puter so takes a second), process payment etc. as they are acting as a collections agent for HMRC but come on, £11? They could just as easily tell HMRC that address x received an import of value y and then it's between receiver and HMRC to sort out. Just a money making tactic  I wouldn't mind so much if they actually got the payment amount right but they even fudged that up and overcharged VAT. I think it should be illegal as it's all automated these days and you can just as easily pay HMRC directly.

What a sh*t birthday so far. Trans am threw its power steering belt on the way back from alignment. Steerig still isnt straight after all that time and money  spent an hour just waiting for tools to arrive to get the belt back on so i could get home. Went to install the heater matrix on the camaro and what do you f*cking know. It doesnt f*cking fit. What kind of bs is this. This is the copper one from npd what the hell. Its the same measurement pipe distance wise as the aluminium one. Neither fit. What the f*ck. Ive guess i have to hack up the f*cking firewall and allow is to f*cking rust out where it gets cut up f*cking great. its not just the firewall its also the retainer f*vking clip that doesnt fit. And how the f*ck do i know if im even cuttinf up the right area as when its installed in the big heater box that will dictate how it has to go in so maybe i can get it to fit now as test fit but how the f*ck will it fit if the box throws it ina different way. So f*ckig sick of this bullshit. Ye tanother f*cking £100 pointlessly wasted. I just want to f*cking finish the car after 6 f*cking years is that too much to f*ckig ask. Oh ye and the carpet underside is still f*cking wet. How. How?! There's nothing there. It's been lifted off the floorpan for MONTHS. It's had heaters on it for hours. What the f*ck is that about.

Ahh sorry to hear that, its a rotten bit of luck. I wish I could offer some advice about how to fix the car but I don't have the experience, but I do have experience in being frustrated and f*cked off and I can say that it will get better - just vent some more, hit a punch bag, have a few Birthday beers and then sleep on it :)

Oh and Happy Birthday!! :)

I got the money in my account and credit card limit raised....nice.

Called Summit, spoke to "Duke" and did the order until it came time to pay.....neither frikkin´ card worked. :?
I felt so bloody foolish.

Looking at 1978 Camaro heater cores on RockAuto there seems to be two different types,
with or without A/C.
Surely one must work.

Thanks for the birthday wishes!

Sounds like a few of us had quite a frustrating day. I've had issues with payment overseas by card - i think it's due to the postcode convention as when it's pulled through the system it doesn't match up. I was in NPD California branch once and was using my debit card and ended up on the phone to the bank and they were checking the details on their half, saying everything was ok, they could see the transaction and it was bouncing because the post code wouldn't match. Checked the NPD transaction screen and it looked the same, but something had to be modified to make it go through and finally it happened. Wonder if it's something similar happening?

Ye definitely needed a vent, apologies! I ended up wrestling with it for 6 hours last night :/ and manged to get it installed. I used a large round file to open the hole of the firewall where the bottom pipe sits. I think it would have installed ok if the engine side of the heater box wasn't on, but it was on, sealed and 2 of the bolts require the inner fender to be removed. All stuff that wouldn't have been a problem had i changed it all when it was all out of the car. Lesson learned. But still, the heater pipes don't match the original, they are about 1/4" too close together. The aluminium one from rockauto that i originally got, matches the one from NPD, but those 2 don't match the original, which is Harris (i think that's the name) which is the factory one. I just hope i haven't caused any damage to the pipe connections as it wasn't a smooth installation. Mine's a non AC and the the main difference is the AC one has much longer pipes to get around the box, so they supplied the correct version, just seems the tolerance is off.

Now need to install the cables, wiring and central vent and give it a run.

Sorry you're having so much hassle with something as stupid as a heater core..

You're welcome to my old when when it's out, but no idea when that'll be, and it's not new so no guarantees how long it'll last..

Hope things improve, and pleased you got it fitted somehow... I'd have not bothered and come back to it later.. :P summer's coming, heater can wait...

Thanks dude, it's always the little stuff that catches you out it seems. Fingers crossed it won't leak after the install. Thanks for the offer of yours, if worst case happens then i'll certainly take you up on the offer! How is your project looking, is work starting in May?
