 Post subject: Fitting new carpet

Looking at the seats I see two bolts at the front of each of the runners....is it a simple case of unscrewing these to remove the seats and runners so I can fit the carpet under them...or is there a trick to just fitting around them to save strippin the interior?

Car Details:1980 2nd Gen, 6.0 iron block LS, 4.11 12 bolt axle, Brute Strength Posi, Lowered 2", sub frame connectors, G-braces, Carbon hood and front bumper cover
Location:Norfolk
There's 4 bolts holding the seats in, 2 at the front and 2 at the back. You'll need to slide the seat forward to get at the back ones.

You'll also need to remove:
The rear seat bases - they just clip in. Push down and backward really hard, then lift upward.
The plastic panel behind the pedals, 2 screws you can see easily if you stick your head in the footwell.
The kick panels - beware, they are sealed to the inner metal work and will need to be resealed when you replace them otherwise you'll have a wet floor.
The sill trim panels at both doors - 4 screws in each.

It's not a bad job, but is time consuming.

Car Details:1986 Camaro, bought into Spain by me in 1993.
305 replaced by a 355, 750 Demon carb, RPM AirGap intake, Brodix heads, Hedman Hedders, 3" Flowmaster exhaust.
Wheels are Summit aluminium 5 spokes, tyres are 245 rear 225 front BF Goodrich.
B/M transmission, battery relocated to the rear, GoodMark 4" cowl steel hood.
Location:Spain East Coast
Think about it for a minute and you´ll realize cutting around the runners would be time consuming and very difficult, the result would be dreadful.
The seats have to come out, there will be four bolts or nuts... two front...two rear, centre console too if you have one.
In fact most trim that is over the carpet is best out of the car, you can´t "tuck" carpet, it´s too stiff.
If you get any warm days lay the carpet out to soften, it´ll mold easier to the contours of the floor.
This is a SummitRacing carpet I installed years ago, it is still in very good condition.

Thanks guys ..I did think that my idea of cutting round the seats etc would look shabby...the seller included a new carpet so I was happy with that!....as you all will
realize..I'm a novice at working on cars...but I want to learn ..save money and enjoy the results of my work where I can do it.

Good info already - especially about leaving the carpet out to bake on a sunny day to help make it fit. Also the centre console will need to come out and the seatbelts (not too bad, just a bolt for each one). Tip for the seats and belts- when you remove them, bolt the bolts back in, as the carpet won't have holes cut out for the bolts and you'll spend a lot of time trying to find the hole :lol: But with the bolts in place, you'll know exactly where to cut a hole and make re installation a lot easier.
Seats are best taken out folded up (as if you're letting a passenger in the back) and just be careful not to scratch anything as you take them out as they are a bit fiddly and the tracks can easily dig into the paint.
