I have both Chilton and Haynes, neither gives all the answers.
Chilton is better than Haynes.

And youtube. Great for "how to's" especially if you're like me and very visual so needs to see it being done. The manuals are good for knowing the specs e.g. torque specs and advisories and most people get on well with them for the whole procedure.

I have both and find them both useful. Best thing is to get the GM factory repair manual. I got one for my '87 on amazon.com and it's a big fat book. When looking through my Chilton manual for the '87 i noticed the pictures were taken from the factory repair manual. More expensive but it's the muts nuts.

How to post pics: When writing a message, scroll down and use the "attach file" option. Where possible, a photo sharing service can be used such as Flickr, Imgur etc. The image location (usually ending in .jpg) can be copy and pasted between the ][ brackets that appear when you click the 'Img' button (you can find this button at the top of the message box).

How to post youtube vids: Click on the 'youtubeHD' button at the top of the message box and in the middle of the ][ brackets that just appeared, copy and paste everything from the youtube web address that appears after the = sign i.e if this is the url: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2cNqaPSHv0 just copy "K2cNqaPSHv0").

Just ask the questions, everybody here is happy to share knowledge and no books can ever trump personal experience

The assembly manual can be useful too, as can the Fisher body manuals. I'd say no particular one is more important or better than the others, but work well as a 'set'.

The best 'manual' is nastyz28.com (followed shortly by here ;) )

Thanks guys!.....re the YouTube videos...yes I'm the kind who prefers a mix of manual and video....I completed my first running repair tonight with help from a mate....tightening the PS belt ....although I don't have a torque wrench so just made sure the bolts were tight as I could get them....I'm on a learning curve....i m not scared to get hands on...just never done in depth repairs before...
