Car Details:1986 Camaro, bought into Spain by me in 1993.
305 replaced by a 355, 750 Demon carb, RPM AirGap intake, Brodix heads, Hedman Hedders, 3" Flowmaster exhaust.
Wheels are Summit aluminium 5 spokes, tyres are 245 rear 225 front BF Goodrich.
B/M transmission, battery relocated to the rear, GoodMark 4" cowl steel hood.
Location:Spain East Coast

"the SBC fuel pump i use has 3/8" inverted flair on the OUT side and 3/8" barb on the IN side. Napa part #M6624..about $22 new"

So I´m totally confused too.

Is the part you have correct ?

"The outlet has a female threaded end, so would need a male fitting of some sort. Normally it's a hard line piece that threads on and the line goes up to the intake. What's different in my case is that i have an edelbrock intake and carb, plus no hard line as it's got an electric fuel pump. So what happens is there's stainless line that runs from the fuel pump at the back of the car, up the chassis and ends under the heater box. Rubber hose goes straight up, into a filter, then into a regulator, then rubber hose from reg into carb.

So what' i'm planning on doing is routing the rubber hose from the end of the stainless line, by the heater box, to the pump inlet( easy as that's all barb ends). So it's a case of figuring out how to get a rubber line from the fuel pump that will mount to engine block, to the carb (input of carb is 3/8 barb)."



Why an electric pump and mechanical, and how much rubber line are running in total ?

Ye i came across the Jalopny link in my search too, interestingly it mentioned something about inverted flare, which could explain the size difference?

Thanks for posting on the other forum too - saw a reply mentioning searching for that phrase on google, had a quick look and found 1 so far but they didn't have an 1:1 size, only things like 3/8 to 5/16 or 3/8 to 1/2. Getting a bit closer it seems.

I think you're right that they expect you to use the stock hardline. I've got an aftermarket intake and carb, so def can't get away with buying the hardline as the carb end will be in a different position and the carb also has a barbed end, so def won't fit. Trying to think if maybe i can find somewhere that would make some 3/8 pipe with the invereted flare nut on it an the other end is a bubble flare so then i can use rubber hose to connect to the carb. Something like this perhaps - ideally not in mild steel though.

Will also give real steel a call to see if they have any 3/8 inverted flare to barbs, couldn't find any suppliers on UK pages (so far).

My friend is visiting from the U.S in May, so i could buy something from the U.S and ship it her place and she can bring it over, but i would need to be 100% certain it was correct.

I'd still put my money on it being BSP. You can get BSP to barbs over here for a couple of quid.

Did you get any pictures/measurements?

I should have some BSP fittings in the garage so will test those out, good call.

Didn't take measurements yet, was in a really bad mood yesterday so just tried it and didn't go any further. Will definitely get some pics and measurements tonight.

Sorry - I was looking at the Speedflow catalogue (where I got my fitting from) and saw the BSP as the right shape.

It is more likely to be UNF, but you never know as they used all sorts of different sizes/fittings.

Didn't see any updates this morning on the hotrodders forum but had a look not long ago and there are some helpful answers on there, thanks for that! It seems i need an inverted flare (npt / bsp) male fitting to barb. Looks like the ones you have there Malc! What are the outer diameters on them?

Measurement wise the inner diameter of the thread on the carter pump is 14.5mm. The outer diameter of the 3/8 npt fitting i bought is 17mm. It also appears that the fitting i bought is slightly tapered, as it's narrow at the start of the thread and gets a bit wider near the nut.
