Happy to say the engine is all rebuilt now an i picked the car up today.I had the engine completely rebuilt.I would have lost to much money selling as is and im so glad i kept it.Hopefully after the winter i will do a trackday at Brands.
Well done and great news. Certainly the best outcome all round............

Lovely looking car! Glad you decided to keep it. Let me know when you go to Brands, I will see if I can come along - may even have my 68 on the road too!

Cheers,
Mark

Sorry for late reply Big block,I have tried to get back on this site but for some reason I could,nt get on it.After collecting the car an driving it home the starter packed up.I bought a new mini starter but on fitting it i noticed the starter bolt on the outside (passenger side) had cracked the block so I have had to sort fitting the starter to the bell houseing.I hav,nt finished it yet but hope to have it back on the road over easter when i will have more time.

Just an update,The starter bolt on the outside of the block cracked an would have ment an engine out fix to weld it which i did,nt want to go through again.A friend of mine that works for Mclaren made an alloy plate to bolt to the bellhousing to get around useing the block bolt.We have now fitted this an the starter works fine.I used the car today for about a 10 mile run but noticed a patch of oil under the car after parking for about 30 minutes.I tightened the distributor as i had just nipped it as i hav,nt timed it up yet an went for another run at speed an this time there was only a very small amount of oil so hopefully this is cured.

Glad to hear both issues are (seemingly for the oil) fixed! Any pics of the starter "relocation"? Quite an ingenious way of solving! May help some others out there too who have a similar issue.

These photo,s are of the alloy block we used to fit the starter to the bell housing. We drilled two holes on the outside of the block and used the inside bolt up to the block so there are 3 bolts now holding it.
