 Post subject: Bluetooth OBD2 reader

Bought a OBD2 bluetooth reader off fleabay for £7. Brilliant piece of kit.

Downloaded a free app of the google play store called Torque pro and installed it on my tablet pc.
Simply connect to reader to the tablet and run the program. You can scan for codes and reset them. Also you can display all the sensor readings in a dial or reading format. Basically make up a virtual dash! If you pay for the pro version it works out mpg, 0-60's and such like.

Tried this on my 1995 and can't get it to work any ideas why?

Hmm could be. Same plug though isn't It?
If I remember right only the power light came on and it didn't even try to communicate

Yeh your port needs to be OBDII. Have you turned the bluetooth on on the device your using and paired it with reader. I usually get a pair message when I got into Torque Pro. Click pair then it takes a moment or two to detect the type of system the car uses.

ODBII was for 1996 and later cars. Some earlier ones had the OBDII connector but it was still wired for the older system.
Under the bonnet you should have a sticker saying "OBDII compliant". Alternatively if you check the under the dash connector it has 16 pins. If you do not have wires to pins 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 14, 15, & 16 it's not OBDII.
Pin 1 being at the top left and pin 16 being at the bottom right

I'm looking to get a bluetooth scanner too, can anyone tell me which ones they have and do they clear codes?

I have a 98 Z28 with a check engine light that I want to turn off.

They aren't all fully obd2 compliant, my 97 has obd2 but I brought a hud display from eBay and it won't work at all, apparently it will only work on 2002 upwards that have obd2 but my plug in fault code scanner works perfectly
