Does anyone know what size & type of fitting is on the mechanical fuel pump?

Thanks!

For questions like that I usually go to Summit and pick out the part.
Part description will give you the sizes you need.
Here you go, pick a pump, all for small block Chevs.

I agree with going to Summit. I've been looking for a replacement pump as well.

But, and they list 'stock', 3/8 NPT, 1/2 NPT and 1/4 NPT to fit my car. Which is the standard thread? I don't really want to use / find an adapter, especially if I don't know what size to adapt from.

Does anyone know what the stock fitting thread size is?

Thanks :-)

Ah good thinking of checking on Summit! Just checked and mine is the Carter one: http://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/c ... del/camaro (CARTER M6624). Not sure which part of the page i should be looking at, but i can't seem to see the information about the pipe size on that page.

Think this looks about right: http://carter.carshopinc.com/product_in ... 2520/M6624
Mechanical Fuel Pump, 40 gph, 7.5-9 psi, 3/8 in Hose Barb Inlet, 3/8 in NPT Outlet, Aluminum, Natural, Gas, Small Block Chevy.

If i remember correctly, the 1/4" lines were for cars with <299 cube engines, 3/8" line for >300 cubes. My guess would then be that 1/2" is for Big blocks?

I guess i can always use a caliper gauge and if it's about 9.5mm then i can be sure it's 3/8. Good to know it's NPT too, i definitely wasn't sure about that part!

Thinking of using something like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Alloy-3-8-NPT ... SwstxVeqa2

Or this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NPT-Brass-Mal ... m2PhdVAZ_w

There's no guarenteeing it's NPT. Both 'stock' fuel pumps I've had were an inverted flare BSP fitting. Sadly, I can't remember the size. Are you able to take any pictures of the hose end or pump inlet to help identification. Once you know the type, getting the size is just a case of mearsuring the hole and looking it up.

Are you after a fitting for a hose to match the pump or a pump to match your existing hose?

When I converted to braided fuel hose and wasn't sure of the size/fitting, I was able to post the old one to Speedflow to identify and send the correct new fitting.

On reading Stu's post, is it inlet or outlet?

My inlet is a fixed barb on the pump and it's the outlet that screws in. Some have both as scewed fittings.

Ye i'll get some pics tonight and add a caliper gauge on there too.

It uses a barbed inlet so the existing rubber hose can go on that (hose is 3/8 and will measure the barbed end tonight).

The outlet has a female threaded end, so would need a male fitting of some sort. Normally it's a hard line piece that threads on and the line goes up to the intake. What's different in my case is that i have an edelbrock intake and carb, plus no hard line as it's got an electric fuel pump. So what happens is there's stainless line that runs from the fuel pump at the back of the car, up the chassis and ends under the heater box. Rubber hose goes straight up, into a filter, then into a regulator, then rubber hose from reg into carb.

So what' i'm planning on doing is routing the rubber hose from the end of the stainless line, by the heater box, to the pump inlet( easy as that's all barb ends). So it's a case of figuring out how to get a rubber line from the fuel pump that will mount to engine block, to the carb (input of carb is 3/8 barb).

Well, a 3/8 NPT male thread to 3/8 barb just arrived. And what a surprise, it doesn't fit. It's just ever so slightly too big. WTF. I'm really getting sick of this. It's a simple fitting, yet it doesn't fit (i'm trying so hard not to swear).

I don't understand it. It's a Carter M6624 fuel pump. Their website has FA info it. Most other websites like Summit don't say what the size is. I found a link that i posted earlier that mentions 3/8 NPT. But why the hell does it not fit?! It's about 1mm too large in diameter. So it's not like it's 1/4" female fitting and i bought a 3/8" inch male fitting. It's like 1mm difference?!

I found something online that mentioned an an inverted flare, what the hell is that? I'm guessing that's the issue? Why would they make it a different size, 3/8 means 3/8, not 3/8 and probably a bit different

So the question is how the hell do i do anything now. I can't find a single supplier in the UK that sells a 3/8 inverted flare (Assuming that's the issue) and the ones i've seen in the u.s are all for putting onto a pipe i.e. like a brake pipe nut, but i don't want a pipe end i just want to connect a barbed hose end. Why does it have to be this bloody difficult. No wonder it's been over 6 years with all this kind of cr*p. Sorry for the rant but this is getting ridiculous now, no matter how hard i try and finish this car it's stupid stuff like this that stops it and sucks the life out of it

Not one Carter fuel pump on Summit has the thread size shown.
They are assuming you´ll take the old off and fit the new with your existing fittings.

You could email Summit and ask them, customerservice@summitracing.com
They do answer queries, I´ve done it several times.
Before their website, I called them on 001 330 630 3030.

Failing Summit would Real Steel help you out, I don´t know any others in the UK?

I also have quite a few fittings I thought were correct but....... :lolno:

I´d call.

Could this be a candidate ?
