I used the car yesterday an went for drive, suddenly the oil pressure dropdown to 20lb.The oil pressure is normally 80 psi on start up cold an then drops to 60 psi at 2000 rpm and 35 psi on tickover hot. It,s now 20 psi at 2000rpm so not good.I changed the oil an filter last week an after this happened yesterday a few people i spoke to said change the filter in case it has callapsed inside.I changed the filter today an it has made no differance so im thinking maybe a main bearing has spun,I have the choice now of getting it repaired or selling the car as is.
That's a real bummer for sure... Not many people will part with good money for a car with a poorly engine. Surely best to pull it out, drop the sump and check the bottom end first to see if that is the issue and then decide? Don't know what sort of oil filter system you may have on that engine, like a remote filter perhaps - if so you need to make sure not just the filter is filled with oil but any pipework as well to minimise any air locks. Have you made a decision now which way to go?

Hi Raven,i have tried various friends an engine builders to look at the car but It seems no one is interested in taking the engine out.Due to health reasons i can,t do this my self and i don,t have the facilitys to do the job. There are two engine builders that have offered to do the job but they will only do it if the engine is removed. To be honest i love the car and i have spent a fortune on it but i am loseing interest in it laying in the garage so i may sell.I understand what you say about selling a car with an engine problem but there are people around that would buy the car,im not bothered about how long it takes as these are going up in value here and the states.

I have a friend who would probably get the job done for you, what he doesn't know about 1st gens and Chevy engines isn't worth knowing, based in Chesham and has his own 10sec 1st gen that he has owned for about 25 years and does all the work on my SS for me

I'm up for a track day when mine's all done, so springtime I'll be looking at a shakedown day Brands too.. Maybe we'll try and get a posse together, much more fun..
