Took Butch to a track day this Sunday

utter bliss

lovely weather no crowds

Started off to examine the Alpina:
Herman is a cruiser and understeers = really have to swing in to get the back out- we had a photographer on site will post some pictures- at times I wished I still kept the kidney displacing KW coilovers!! You will see the roll angles!

Front tyres have too soft sidewalls even at 36 psi cold- thing is the car is far too nice to make it appreciably lighter and quicker- so I shall have to live with it.
but it does prove why this combo did not fare well in competition as compared with an 4 cylindar M10 turbo or not derivative 2002 or 320

Steve turned up in that Loud Mustang- so I went home and brought out Butch- which was FUN! Lovely day I took the Mustang out later - by goodness it is all engine (and not much else!) he told me that it was 10.50:1 347 CID and 563 bhp- certainly felt like it. But simply no brakes, terrible bumpsteer, rock hard steering and suspension- managed to drop the starter halfway round- now that was a noise!

Organiser spun his MGC GT in front of me as Butch bore down! Thought I had on camera- but forgot to switch it on...................

Great fun- days like this are ones to remember what a wonderful life we have on IOM with the facilities and petrol heads at every corner.

Then photographer turned up - he has some good pix of Camilla in action in 2011 Manx Classic here:
http://www.martynsfotos.com/blog/dt_por ... -28-00399/

(hence why am posting under Camilla!

How does Camilla feel round the bends ? I'd expect quite a bit of flex with them semi slicks and being a convertible :D

Funnily enough the suspension is VG- hotchkiss fronts and carbon fibre rears with Bilstein shocks

and with the Yoko 0032Rs it hangs on OK.

But the main issue is the terrible standard power steering- it feels like there are marsh mallows in the steering column- the responses are by no means linear either

I have to lock my elbow in the door trim and hold the wheel at the same place- all else is guesswork

As part of the Camilla refurb I am hoping to fit my spare Global west quick ratio steering box

Car Details:1986 Camaro, bought into Spain by me in 1993.
305 replaced by a 355, 750 Demon carb, RPM AirGap intake, Brodix heads, Hedman Hedders, 3" Flowmaster exhaust.
Wheels are Summit aluminium 5 spokes, tyres are 245 rear 225 front BF Goodrich.
B/M transmission, battery relocated to the rear, GoodMark 4" cowl steel hood.
Location:Spain East Coast
Those tyres look like off-roaders more than semi slicks.

They are a bit muddy- but they are the real deal being Yokohama 0032Rs!

Collected Camilla last w/e from Scott Racing and drove her back to IoM on Sunday

what an improvement!

Engine is much more fruity after rebuild back axle with LSD much better but the lower gearing has affected fuel consumption badly!

Did 16 mpg at normal fast ish mway speeds

more info shortly!
