The BBC made a documentary about the fact that the university backed it and it didn't work but as this link to the iplayer page shows it appears to have been removed http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00sllf3 , can't have any bad press about the British education system indicating they might be a little dumb or crooked now can we
There was a wonderful clip where the tea leaf fantasist is also at milbrook where the BBC has paid for the unit to be tested and the reporter shows him the test results and says "there is is proof it doesn't work Mr watts" to which he replied "well that's just your opinion isn't it" :-) , the UK company he ripped off was called Andel and last thing I heard they were trying to bring a class action against him for fraud, that was a few years back now though, I can only assume he managed to keep hold of the money he scammed
Perhaps the Simpsons episode with the monorail should be compulsory viewing at all the Universities

I found it quite amusing really, when I made the first ones and sold them I told my buyer that I had not tested them with regards to fuel consumption but they would make hho efficiently so hadn't tried to pull the wool over anyone's eyes. I phoned the university to explain that they were being made to look like idiots as it wasn't his idea and didn't work anyway but after the initial phonecall got stonewalled
The people involved in the Kent innovation awards weren't interested either which surprised me a little, like Dave says "they are all in it together" , I felt more sympathy for the other genuine people who should have won the award and benefitted from its bough and contacted some of them to explain the situation. It's a brilliant example of just how effective the placebo effect can be though, the testing company at milbrook were called power train and said they had only ever seen two effective fuel consumption methods , one was a slippery oil that had a 0.something effect and the biggy was driver training which can reduce fuel consumption by as much as a whopping 25%
