Big day yesterday as the 69 Camaro was finally ready for its MOT. Almost the completion of a 3yr rebuild (which I kept updating) on here but thanks to Facebook changing all the URLs the pictures in that thread have all disappeared..... Anyway, this is the restoration of MLL 40L known back in the 'old days' as Red Devil
So here are a few pictures of the journey along the way...
IT ALL STARTED BY poking around the nearside rear quarter and finding a load of rust and a botched welded rear quarter panel
BY THE TIME I HAD FINISHED WITH THE AIR CHISEL the entire rear end, including seat supports, parcel shelf and the roof skin had GONE... !!
ALL THE RUSTY inner roof supporting metalwork was exposed, cleaned and rust treated as best I could before a new roof skin went back on
FOR SOME STRANGE REASON the car had a 67 dash welded in which was removed and a new 69 dash was welded back in
NEW FLOOR PANS were installed as the old floor was badly bent from its drag racing days
Last summer THE ENTIRE NEW BODYSHELL was welded together by a friends bodyshop to get all the alignment and strength back and then it went back this summer to be finished off and painted in Hugger Orange with black stripes. AND FINALLY we got the car through the MOT yesterday and its back on the road.
I'm not a trade professional, all this work was done in my spare time in a rented garage with the help of two brilliant sons, particularly in re-assembling the car. I'm amazed at the result, even though I say it myself...............
We still have a few jobs on the interior to complete and exterior window trims to fit. Definitely need new tyres and will probably change the wheels to Torque Thrust 2's but for the moment I am well chuffed with the result...............
