I went with a three piece spoiler to add a little attitude to the car, I got the spoiler mocked up, but it was a right PITA to get right and needed lots of patience to get the holes in the right places...

Adding the spoiler completely changed the look of the car.

I'd just like to commend you on how clean the garage is! Appears to be like they're pictures of a medical waiting room!

Yep, i used the file more than the drill, even with having spent ages measuring. It does give the car a nice shape having them on. Also good job on getting the right type of side spoiler, you see a lot of early 2nd gens with the late 2nd gen spoilers which don't cover the full portion of the quarter panel.

The only problem was my newly powdercoated hinges (not such a great idea) which I had to free off to get them to work...
Same happened to me - although not powder coated, i scuffed them up, painted with high build primer (whilst painting the rest of the car) and then colour on top of that... not the best of ideas as the hinge decided that in order to move, it should chip off the paint that was in its way.

What's happened on the trunk lid? looks like a door ding on there?

I think it's safe to say you have the cleanest 2nd gen, inside and out in the UK!

Where possible, a photo sharing service can be used such as Flickr, Imgur etc. The image location (usually ending in .jpg) can be copy and pasted between the ][ brackets that appear when you click the 'Img' button (you can find this button at the top of the message box).

How to post youtube vids: Click on the 'youtubeHD' button at the top of the message box and in the middle of the ][ brackets that just appeared, copy and paste everything from the youtube web address that appears after the = sign i.e if this is the url: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2cNqaPSHv0 just copy "K2cNqaPSHv0").

Thanks, yeah I can't remember quite what happened but I seem to remember dropping something on it at some point, no big deal though!

Next job was to get the latch bracket welded back on...

Image

After that I tackled the gap at the back edge of the passenger side door, I started by adding some weld where necessary...

Image

Took the grinder to it to add some shape...

Image

Then finished it up with some good old fashioned hand files. Here is the before with the bad profile...

Image

Here it is fixed...

Image

Quite simple fixing the door this way, when you replace so many panels it's inevitable to find some areas where the panels just aren't the right shape.

Love the build, inspiring me for my slightly cheaper resto! Love the colour too.

Finally got round to doing some more on this thread, I honestly don't know where the time goes. Over the course of the build I ordered plenty of parts from Classic Industries who have always provided a great service. These were the essentials to get me into paint...

Image

I also had to finish up the edge of the drivers side door...

Image

I also had some fun and games fitting the trunk lid, I made the holes bigger to get more adjustment but it was still not even close to being right. The captive nuts in the reproduction lid were so far off I had two choices, cut the lid up and move the nuts to where they should be or...

Image

Image

I cut the hinge and bent it to where it needed to be, then welded it up again, this allowed me to mount things centrally and also add some height where it was a little low in the corner. Not a big job really.

I got the front end and doors stripped in preparation for rubbing down the body, and spent some time getting the rear corners into shape...

Image

It's amazing how much time the final jobs like this take up!

There was more time spent on the tail panel...

Image

Followed by pulling the subframe and seam seaing the underside, then I got creative with my engine hoist!

Image

I cut some box section to make a lifting beam and hoisted the front end up so I could epoxy the underside and firewall...

Image

I was really pleased with the finish, I was keen to get that satin look rather than matt or high gloss, and the fact that it matches the powdercoated frame was a bonus!

Image

I also got my Bilstein shocks installed...

Image

I sprayed down to just before the leaf spring buckets, then got creative with the engine hoist on the back end. No more difficult than removing the rear bumper, looping a strop round and then putting the bumper back on. Makes a perfect lifting beam with plenty of strength to lift the car this way. I planned on replacing the rear bumper anyway so I wasn't too worried about marking it...

Image

I hate painting upside down, and I will point out at this point that I did not work under the hoist alone, I lowered the body off onto a pair of trestles whilst I was working underneath (same on the front). Safety first!

Image

Image

Ages ago I scored an SSBC disc conversion kit on Ebay with the axle out it was the perfect opportunity to install it...

Image

I got the axle back round and set about getting it ready...

Image

There's more...

I got the diff cover off and located the dreaded lock pin. I've read bits and pieces about how they can shear if treated without care. I rotated the assembly to the position you see it in now, and chocked it with wood to stop it rotating whilst I undid the bolt. I used a spanner and applied gentle pressure until I felt it go. No real dramas, I guess I was lucky!

I think it definitely helped having it chocked. I slid the bolt out and then the pin...

Image

I pulled the shaft out and removed the bolts from the backing plate...

Image

Following the SSBC instructions I had the conversion done in no time.

More to come but that's enough for one evening! ;)

Happy New Year everyone, thought I'd try and make more of an effort to get this project thread updated, you never know who might find it useful!

Where was I...

There was a question from Flak about the bleeder screws which made me double check the caliper installation.

SSBC's instructions read, and I quote...

'The bleeder screws should be pointing down and the parking brake levers will point up. The calipers will be bled through the bleeder screws in the head of the banjo bolts.'

Here are the photos with the flex hoses installed and the bleed points it referred to...

Image

Image

After this I got the axle back in, and the suspension hooked up...

At this point it was a rolling shell again!
