can anyone shed some light on my th350 gearbox 'issue'?

car shifts up quite early in normal use, holds gear slightly longer when cold but once up to temp, approx 5 mins, it will change up very early. prob into top by 30mph. kicks down fine when clog it but blunts acceleration a bit.

once upto temp and stopped at a fuel station for instance, when drive away after the shifts are held quite a bit longer, giving brisk pull away. But holds it a bit longer than i would assume is normal.

after a couple of mins/miles all returns to normal, as in early up shifts etc.

I suggest it is something to do with fluid pressure effected by temp, i.e. when its hot, thins out and less pressure. But when cooler its thicker and more pressure. Thereby effecting pressure valves and stuff.

Has had new filter and fluid, but only about 5 litres when changed pan gasket over. And has had new modulator and hoses sorted.

Any ideas on how to solve this or good auto tech in the area of Feltwell/Thetford. Dont mind driving to find decent mech.

Gonna try vaccuming out fluid with pump and replace few litres at a time with fresh stuff but its still nice cherry coloured on dipstick at the moment.

Some one suggested the Govenor but it seems heat related with the fluid?

Welcome ideas and suggestions.

It is quite possibly the governor. For any shifting problems the first thing we do is take out and check the governor because you can do it without taking the transmission out.
This shows a 700R4 but the Th350 and TH400 are exactly the same.

The shift points are low under light throttle, like you say into 3rd by 30 mph.

as said above the govner controls the shift point whit normal or light throttle, but the kick down will tell the gearbox to hold the gear longer as it tells the box where the throttle is.

If it ain't broke don't fix it :)
