Parts arrived for my mot. Trotted off in the car to the garage to have the caliper fitted and re mot. Car has started to misfire quite badly if the engine is put under load ie pulling away at speed and hard acceleration or attempting to go over 40-50 mph. My mate changed the plugs and leads( thanks to the designer for the placement of those). Anyway still the same and at one heady point attempting 70mph on the A46 misfired so bad the engine managment light started to flicker on and off until I backed off the throttle! Any ideas?[

Bugger that's not sounding good :/

My initial thought... battery? When my alternator went and the battery was already weak, the car started bogging down and barely made it home. A few people on here were giving me advise when i was diagnosing it and it was mentioned that Injection systems rely heavily on voltage (they said it much better).

Other than that, only other thing i can think of is maybe the throttle body? Maybe worth giving it a clean with some carb cleaner or something, making sure the mechanism moves smoothly etc.

Final though, maybe to do with the fuel delivery... blocked fuel filter / bad pump?

Where possible, a photo sharing service can be used such as Flickr, Imgur etc. The image location (usually ending in .jpg) can be copy and pasted between the ][ brackets that appear when you click the 'Img' button (you can find this button at the top of the message box).

How to post youtube vids: Click on the 'youtubeHD' button at the top of the message box and in the middle of the ][ brackets that just appeared, copy and paste everything from the youtube web address that appears after the = sign i.e if this is the url: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2cNqaPSHv0 just copy "K2cNqaPSHv0").

Yep Im thinking slightly blocked injector Ive got some "trade" injector cleaner and Ill be popping the throttle body off for a good clean and check the vac pipes. Ive discounted voltage as the gauge is showing a good 13.5 volts or so.

It wouldn't hurt to follow 78's advice and get the battery tested anyhow.
Voltmeters do not always tell you the whole story, and it shouldn't cost anything.
Hope you find the problem.

Don't forget the common coil issues - usually the middle one of the three ;)

I had exactly the same issue with my 2000 3.8 but once we changed that coil it was poifect ;)

We just bought one because there was nothing left it could be as we replaced just about everything else and just tried one by one. It's usually the middle of the three because the location ;)

The flickering light means the codes showing the problem have already been stored. Get it scanned and go from there.
