does anyone know where i can get flared wheel arch kits for my 1996 ? struggling to find how to make the rears fit legally;

Mine have tyres that are 12 inches wide and fit perfectly? How wide are yours? Maybe you need different rims that sit under the arches rather than out?

How much past the arch lip are the tyres? I think legally it's 1 or 2" of tyre that can protrude past the arch.

If it's a struggle to find some, would it be an option to have a local fabricator make some? Or buy some from a similar sized car and modify?

hi,

yeah, i have looked along those lines, as you can see the wheels are sticking out between 2 1/2 to 3 inches at the top, but because the lowers curve inwards its a lot further out at the bottom..am debating designing some myself out of stiff cardboard and getting a price to fabricate them...

Look to me like you've got the wrong size wheels for the car. I'm guessing there quite a gap at the back of the wheel to make up for the amount sticking from the arch..
Looks like they're maybe wheels for 1st, 2nd or 3rd gen Camaro/Firebird, or a different car altogether which have a different (lower) ET offset than 4th gen cars...

For example here's a set of wheels for a 93 -02 (4th gen) Camaro - note the 45mm offset in the ad.

That's what i was thinking too. The front looks nice and filled out. If the wheels are going to stay and there is some fabrication work to be done, it may be an option to have the rear wheels redone. As they are steels, you can get it separated and then move the part with the mounting holes towards the outside of the wheels to give the +45mm offset that Stu has mentioned.

I had this done on my first car (suzuki jeep). The mounting surface was separated from the drum and move inwards (for a deep dish and to widen the track of the car) and welded up. Never had any issues with balancing etc.

yeah thanks guys, had already looked at flared arches, and have been today to find somewhere local to get the rim centre moved as you suggested, no luck so far. but think thats the best way to go, really like the look of the car with these wheels, gonna get the arches rolled too me thinks.if you know of anywhere in northants/beds/bucks/cambs areas where i can get the wheels done would be very helpful..
