Would it not be great, if some of us who showed up at Speedfest, plus some others who didn't, could meet up somewhere under more relaxed circumstances.
Just to talk cars and stuff, over some liquid refreshment (non-alchoholic, of course, officer) and maybe nosh.
I'm sure we could come up with a location that wasn't too inconvenient for most of us.
I would be OK with just about anywhere within or around the M25. Would prefer NOT to pay a toll.
Push come shove, a service area would suffice.
I appreciate that those that would have to travel a serious distance would not be too keen.

No booking procedures.
No early starts.
No problem with using your other car, if the Camaro is off the road.

It's not a bad idea................is it?

Maybe a RWYB at Santa pod? It's not local for everyone but you get to try your car on the 1/4 mile , see some drag cars run and eat in the pod cafe which might make the journey a little more worthwhile for some people?

I like the idea of the Pod as it's likely the most central location we'll find. In an ideal world we'd have a location that supports members in Scotland, Wales, and the corners of England but i think that would be pretty tough. The pod seems mostly central and it's been suggested before to tag onto an event i.e. and American one that supports RWYB.

That would be good as our 'yearly' club meet. We've kind of adopted Speedfest for that but as it's tucked away in one corner of the country, it's tough for a lot of members to travel to and from.

For something more regular we could do regional events? i.e every month / 2 months each region meets in a 'local to them' place. Us Southerners could adopt the Ace Cafe's monthly American Car meet on the last saturday of the month. no early mornings etc. Beer / food supplied. There's also the heart and magpies pub that has been mentioned a few times. Could do 1 or both?

Speaking of regions, what does everyone think to having some kind of regional rep? Someone who could suggest meet points and help arrange. Not that there would be much to arrange... ideally as BNC says just some place with a big enough car park to turn up to that has beer / food and loo's within walking distance.

Jolly good idea...

Finding a venue that is suitable for everyone will be impossible.... and date(s) too... but definitely worth try nevertheless.

Depends if you wan tot make it just a social, or an activity, like Santa Pod. I was thinking west just outside M25 (somewhere between M4 and A1, as then westerly guys could just make it, Santa Pod sort of falls in that. some great car friendly pubs/restaurants in Surrey and Berks too.

One question inspired by chevystu's post
Finding a venue that is suitable for everyone will be impossible.... and date(s) too... but definitely worth trying nevertheless is how far are you all willing to travel ??
Ive just worked out how far im traveling to the stars n stripes show in a few weeks time and its just over 160miles obviously not a day trip but staying for the weekend but making the effort to go nonetheless
So yeah how far will you travel to support an event/get together??

Sounds like we're all on the same page

I guess if we do a 1 day a year club meet it can be justified to do the longer journey. Then the rest of the year we do regional meets. Does anyone want to volunteer themselves as a regional rep for a certain area?

For the yearly one, if we decide on Santa Pod (please feel free to suggest alternatives!) we could look at hitching onto some of these dates?

http://www.santapod.co.uk/calendar.php

All in August:

Sun 9th
Run What Ya Brung

Sat 15th
Run What Ya Brung

Sun 23rd
Peak Performance Test & Tune Day

I'm hoping there won't be a fee for having a club area. At worse, we just pay the entry fee that everyone else would pay but we'd have an area that we could assemble in?

If it's just a RWYB there's room a plenty and won't be any organised stands anywhere, just turn up, plot up wherever you like type of thing , I think entry to a RWYB is about £15 for the day and another £20(ish) if you want to race

As mentioned by '78', the Ace, on the last Saturday of the month would be good, for those within striking distance.
Although Twisted tells me it can get rammed in the Summer months.
Twisted & myself were there in Feb, March & April. We both missed May due to other commitments.
Chevy-Stu would have been at a couple of those, but he seems to work strange hours in faraway places.
Which is the good thing about regular, casual meets.......you don't have to be at every one.

When I started this thread, what I had in mind was just that, a casual meet. Rather than an 'event'.
Something you don't even feel the need to wash the car for.

Don't get me wrong, a RWYB at the Pod with you lot would be great fun, and I would def. be up for it.
But that would be more of an event. Am I making any sense here? Or just mindlessly babbling.

Afterthought: If we do a RWYB, and Stu brings that little yellow & black thing, you just know he's gonna suck our doors off!

Count me in, I'd be more than willing to travel from Newbury towards the M25 for a Southern regional meet.

If it's a relaxed get together to have a beer and talk cars we could always do a weeknight maybe a Thursday? Say from 7pm somewhere?

In my experience its often better to just stick something in the diary and see who can make it rather than try and find something which suits everyone.
