(haven't taken any since the driver side fender and inner arch have been installed)

Thought i would share this one to anyone else doing some resto work / has the fenders off. I put some black waxoyl underbody sealant stuff on the inner wheel arch where it bolts to the fender. This is usually where the rust starts as you've got 2 bits of metal sandwiched together to trap moisture, plus it's a nice area for moisture to be thrown up from the wheels, plus you've got bolt holes and that's usually where rust starts. These were etch primed, primered and colour coated with 2k at each stage, but thought it's still worth it as there was surface rust here due to the vulnerable location of the metal.

Spent 4 hours last night getting the trunk fill panel aligned. Now i remember why this car is taking so long! Only banked about 30 minutes for the job, including finding the right screws etc.

Made a bit of a schoolboy error... when it was off the car, it looked like it was bent, so i added filler, sanded etc until it had a nice smooth curve across it... then when i put it on the car last night... it had too much curve at the drivers side. turns out it appeared not curved when not installed, when bolted in, it gets it shape back. So i need to sand it down in an area and repaint. It's only a small panel at least. And it can be done at any time.

Tonight will be doing the lights, hopefully the front bumper too.

Always pays to take the time like you did and persevere in spite of the setbacks that always seem to happen on the way .
Look forward to seeing it when it hits the road . 8-)

Thanks for the kind and encouraging words :D

I did a few more adjustments to the drivers fender and it sits a tiny bit better and it seems that will be the best it can be from looking at it from various angles. Lesson learned about doing body work with panels off the car... don't

Fitted the new headlights and did a few small things around the front end last night. Went with this set: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261756715968? ... EBIDX%3AIT

Good price, fast delivery, came with bulbs etc. It has sidelight bulbs in the housing which is great. I had already converted mine to work from the standard sidelights, so the bulbs are there just in case. You would need to cut a hole approx 1 - 2" in diameter into tho the headlight bucket to allow for the terminals to poke through and connect to a wire. The terminals of the sidelight bulb do need to be bent (if not using) in order to sit within the bucket, if a hole hasn't been cut for them.

Got to install and plug in the front marker lights tonight, have test fit the bumper so will get onto that too, hopefully that will be done tomorrow mid day.

Thanks Stu :)

I think i've lost both of the window bumper stops for the front windshield. Will need to have a good rummage through all the boxes tonight, otherwise it's about £40 and 2 weeks wait :(

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1970-81-GM-F- ... 4d20ccb9d2

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1970-1971-197 ... 4d313137c4

Got the bumpers and lights on, rear seats are in too. Doing the door latches, locks, handles and side windows this week. Only for the drivers side though as the passenger side may need respraying due to the excessive sagging of the clear coat.

Got the glass ready and on stands too, so they are ready for action. Car has moved in the garage to be over the pit, so i can do the exhaust too. Thinking of resting the glass in, which means i can have the final weight in and therefore weld the subframe connectors in. Could be extremely close!

Will keep you updated and thanks again for the offer to help  How did the MOT go? Are you back on the road?? :D

Good idea re weight etc.. I'd drive it a few easy miles without welding in the connectors to let it all settle...

Not looking good... guy can't weld until later this week or early next week, so options are:
a) blag a lift with someone
b) drive something else and park in public car park ... :(
c) drive it illegally with no MOT, (not really an option) :o
d) bring the kit car and pretend it's American, (and park at the end of the group out the way) :shh:

I think it's gonna be out of the question... i can do the welding on the SFC's on Sat and most of the exhaust... only issue is i will need some stainless steel tubing... i have all the parts but know that i'll need about 50cm to add in, so was gonna get that once i knew exactly how much was needed.

Then i'd need to get an MOT and the glass in same day, so doubt it :(

I thought you had a welder, or is it some quite hefty welding that's needed?

Don't know of anyone going past us that could give a lift. Well... Phil already has a passenger, so if you fancy jumping in the back, that could work?

Yep, hefty cutting out rusty bits, and upsidedown watertight floor welding.. Out of my experience :(

I reckon I'll meet up and convoy down down in the kit or the beemer..

Ouch, that's no fun. I'm guessing the seats and carpet will need to be taken out too for that? Upside down welding is really no fun, especially if it has to be watertight :(
