Hi
I'm currently looking at a 67 Camaro RS which is in original and mint condition (red car / black interior/ rally wheels / totally standard) with the exception of the engine. The car was originally a I6 but has been converted to a SS 350 V8 with 3 speed auto. I would appreciate any views on a reasonable price for this car as it's difficult to value with this engine.

IMHO, any '67 RS is worth money, regardless of it's original engine etc. especially as you say it's mint/original. What sort of money are we talking here?

If it's been converted to a 350 it's not an original car which affects the value quite a lot, numbers matching is where the money is, also can its provenance be proved?

Hi it's about £20k. It's very difficult to see if this is a reasonable price or not! If it was a true V8 it would be quite cheap I would have thought

Prices of first gens seem to have dropped a little recently since the new 5th gens became so popular and abundant

I think if your interest is in Driving and Enjoying being a Camaro owner originality is only secondary to the overall condition of the car . Leaving aside totally unmolested Z28s , SS big blocks and convertibles I wouldn't worry about "matching number" obsessives ...
This is not America and the average owners are not interested in factory chalk marks, paint dabs and date coded ignition leads and other nerdery that spoils the collector market in the States .

Thanks for your input - i really like the car i am just apprehensive about paying out for it only to find when i want to sell it in a few years that it will be worth a lot less money

Where did I say it was silly? merely pointing out that it's no longer an RS, nor is it an SS It's just one of 1/4 million 67 first gens that were built in which somebody has dropped a V8 so base your purchase on that info, £20k sounds like a very good price for a "mint" v8 first gen "RS" which would also make me look very carefully at what I'm buying, as others have said buy it for a clean driving car but bear in mind it's nearly 50years old and you can hide a lot with filler and paint, I love first gens but most of them I have seen are rotten now and full of filler apart from a few survivors or the many nut and bolt Restorations which command considerably more than £20k , if you have to pump another £10k Into it that you don't have because it's rotten under the paint it stops being the bargain it first appeared to be , caveat emptor, it's easy to get carried away and let your heart rule your head
