Continued with the airbox I was making today. Once the car's run in I intend to fit the twin 4 barrel crossram intake, the down side of this is that it won't clear the inner skin of the hood. I decided to trim out the parts that would foul on the crossram & weld in new metal to put the strength back. here's how I did it. As you can see from this pic the inner hood skin gets in the way quite a bit
I marked out where it needed to be trimmed & then cut it out with a cutting disc. I had to make two cutouts in the inner skin to accomodate the crossram airfilter.
Once they were trimmed out, I took cardboard templates of the shapes needed & then transfered this to some sheet steel. I had to make two infill panels for the cutouts, made from two pieces each. The two pieces of steel were welded together first on the bench & then tack welded into place on the hood.
Once tack welded & happy with the fit I welded them in fully.
This was then ground down ready for a little bit of filler to smooth it all off
Filler in progress, I'll finish this off tomorrow
.
plenty of room
I'm going to make an insert with a round hole in it to fit to the airbox when I run a single 4bbl to seal it to the hood, that way I can run either a single carb or the crossram with 2 4 barrels & still seal it from the hot underhood air
cheers....Nige
