I have already blown the lines out..
I have ordered 10mm fuel line as getting 3/8 here in Germany is a nightmare, I have just realized though that the fuel lines and tank pickup are 5/16 pipe but the pump to carb are 3/8, which is ok if you have a 2 barrel carb so I am upgrading everything to 3/8. I have also order a new tank fuel pickup/sender. So next weekend we will see the results...........

I would have started to prep today but I was working on a 1931 Roll-Royce Phantom II
Just fitted a £12,000 new cylinder head :o

OK this does not make any sense to me, if you and revving at 2000rpm you are using more fuel than at tickover so how does that help if its not getting enough fuel?

did you go through all the thing's I suggested before as other than the Idle circuit or primary jets being blocked. or your power valve or accelerator pump broken/not working these nothing else I can think of fuel wise that would affect the transition from Idle to acceleration.

Most problems in this area are Ignition in my experience, and to do with advance.

Indeed, can't be a blocked line or it wouldn't rev...

I have gone through everything you suggested.
Remember this is a new Carb, new ignition, new fuel pump, plus I have renewed the intake manifold gasket and checked the timing chain for stretch or even a tooth jump. I changed all these because of the problem and nothing has changed what so ever. I have not only double checked but triple checked all the systems.

My theory is that on idle the fuel pump is not pumping enough and drawing in air. Now I think I only have a small air leak because once the revs rise and the fuel pump works harder it is drawing some air and some fuel in, thus filling the carb.

There is physically nothing left to change apart from the complete engine or fuel lines, and the fuel lines are cheaper

cheap fuel pressure meter in line under the bonnet would help diagnosis, if your fuel pump is pumping there would be positive pressure in the lines not a vacuum sucking in air(this would require negative pressure) , if your theory is correct the split would show up as a leak where fuel comes out ? i do understand your thinking it just seems a little flawed to me, i would also get a can of easy start or brake cleaner and have a good squirt around the hoses and heads/manifold to eliminate any vacuum leaks although this sounds like a carb problem to me but i know nothing about rochesters, do you have an autobox or manual?

He has an Edelbrock 1405 which I know nothing about.
Maybe it needs a basic tune up.

Did you install it straight out of the box ?

OK this is a good one I wish I had it here to do, but I'd swap your problem for my Vibration problem....

Have you got a Vacuum gauge if so what's the reading at Idle and the reading at 2000rpm please?

Have you got an old fashioned colour tune kit that would tell you the mixtures in the cylinders at these rpm's.

Oh and one other thing is what's the voltage supplying you HEI is it the old ballasted wire that supplied you old coil and points or have you put in a new 12volt supply to it?

Thats been done lots of times I was talking to someone last week about a similar problem and he had to ballast resistor's in his circuit feeding and electronic ignition, and it had been to a few places which had fitted many new parts but they didn't find that one.

Carb is new and setup is correct, remember I have put a new carb on and the problem stayed the same.
I checked vacuum a while ago and all was ok, at idle and at 2000rpm.
No idea about the colour tune up kit?????? What is that????
HEI ignition, now that is a good one. I also thought of this so I now run battery power direct to the coil with a 30amp relay.

Like I said I have done absolutely everything possible chasing this fault.

I think I will get an in-line fuel pressure gauge and fit that.
The new fuel pipe will be here this week and that will not take long to fit. The pickup/sender unit is on rout from Summit so that might be a next weekend job.

Thanks for all the tips and ideas guys, please keep them coming.
