Afternoon guys, I'm currently hunting a gen3 as a car I've admired and wanted for a long time, a friends dad had a couple about 15 years ago a v6 and v8 and I fancied one ever since (although his weren't exactly great examples) I know what I want to end up with which is a well sorted iroc spec car, cosmetically standard, lightly tuned engine, ideally manual but a developed chassis, it will be used for everything from tootling to the shops up to track days and touring/hoons so handling is important.

Where I start from is the question, I'm pretty open minded, I used to restore classics as a living now I just do it for fun but I have a big workshop and plenty of space so everything from a whole strip and build of a basket case up to buying a decent running driveable example as a base and developing that is an option, I have about 4 projects on the go at the moment ranging from a bare shell rebuild mx5 and mgb through a couple of light restos. In some ways buying a v6 or engineless car makes most sense as I can start from scratch without having a v8 premium on the car to start with, but again worst case scenario if it was a a manual v8 I have a car begging for a Chevy v8 conversion so the lump wouldn't go to waste.

Does anyone know of anything out there, I'm fairly ambivalent about the body style, I'd love a cab or t top I appreciate there are stiffness issues, but I have overcome those in other cars, but I love the hardtop so my mind isn't totally made up anywhere.

Price is flexible ish. I've got a couple of cars up for sale which should net in around 3.5k so that's my base line, I expect to spend a lot less on a project but it looks like I might be able to scrape in to a runner at that level with a bit of luck and a following wind watching eBay.
I would certainly not let a gem of a car get away for more.

Hi and welcome, manuals are a bit like rocking horse poo but do come up occasionally although the sellers usually want silly money, there is a guy in Watford near me who is on eBay as clairecars I think, goes by the name or rocky and breaks 3rd gens who might be worth a look, I had a 305 auto and wished I had got a 350 which might be something to bear in mind, mine was an iroc with t tops and after a quick engine rebuild I had to strengthen the chassis as it used to twist up off of the line ! Whereabouts in the country are you?

I'm in East Yorkshire, Watford is a good drive but I noticed them already and intend to give him a call to see what he has in stock.

I'm not totally hung up on it being manual to start with, I've got an mgc which is an auto and it's been on my list of jobs to change it to manual since I got it but with big torquey engines autos are quite pleasant, so I would certainly go for an auto all else being right but eventually it would be getting manual converted.

I put a shift improver kit on mine and a b&m megashifter which involved changing a few parts in the valve body, made it a lot more interesting! My current car is a manual 6 speed but apart from feeling a bit more Carlos fandango I would I would just as soon drive an auto again, if you have plenty of torque available it's a bit horses for courses

I prefer auto, the first auto car I owned was a HB Viva 1.8 back in 1976....

I love to hold the Camaro on the brake using the left foot, revs up and release......

I think the comments about getting a 350 upwards are well worth considering. Also, I have talked with people who have thrown away the ECU and injection, and replaced them with a four barrel. It seems that this route makes the whole thing much simpler in the long run. Old Skool rules

Good idea, and rip out the HEI ignition and replace it with a set of points while your at it, and get rid of that pesky new fangled starter motor and fit a cranking handle instead

Well long story short I've bought one, it's a project car but was the right price, it's an early auto which should have a 305 in it but may have a 350 if I'm very lucky.

I may have it back home this weekend if I'm lucky, will update when it lands.
