But without the fun parts lol.

Well, everything is now finally sanded. Had a couple of bits that needed some filler (accidentally dropped the side spoiler onto the bumper and it nicked it enough that it needed a 5p size of glazing filler, there was a slight crack in the primer on the trunk fill panel, so sanded that down and then built it back up, and finally the drivers side door, which i accidentaly dropped when installing ages ago causing the front lower bottom edge to dent in a bit, was still curved in a bit, so straightened it up a bit more and levelled it with some filler).

Just need to spot primer the breakthroughs, so been having a good clean up first as it's gotten messy in the garage, then need to mask up the panels and lightly spray the small areas. Managed to sand my finger nails down to the point they were getting sore, thanks to the akward corners and areas of the door jambs and rocker panels.

While having a clean out, i found the gauge cluster (for Kevin) but unfortunately it turns out it has the idiot lights, which explains the Autometer tach on the dash.

I also found the leaf blocker grill thing that sits on the cowel where the air comes into the cabin. Installed that and in doing so, found out that at some point the cowel section has been replaced as on the underside i found bits of mig welding wire sticking out, and filler poking through. Not smart, as that filler will absorb moisture and rot out the metal. They should have used short strand fibre glass instead as that is water proof. I layered it up with underseal which has waxoyl in it. Then i realised it smells. I hope the smell goes away as the air coming into the cabin will be coming through there.

Also reinstalled the fan blower which i took out to clean and repaint. Tested it from a 12v battery and works. So that's a couple of things ticked off the list. So next step is spot primer, lightly go over with some 600 wet to knock any peaks off, then onto paint. Hoping to get the spot primer on this coming weekend.

Lol it's a very good and valid question. Should be next weekend

As we're having unusually warm weather, i will utilise the evenings to clean up the rest of the garage before the weekend. Then on Sat morning i should be able to mask and prep for spot primer. If it's all ready by mid afternoon i can get the primer on sat late day / eve. Meaning i can sand those few parts on Sunday (only a thin film needed so shrinkage and drying time not an issue). If it takes a bit longer to prep, then i'll spot prime on Sunday and sand towards the end of next week / next Saturday morning. Then clean and prep, provided the temp is above 15c in the garage then the first batch of panels can be painted on weekend of the 18th :)

Got everything cleaned up in the garage and on the car. Found a few spots that needed a little attention - some heavier scratches in a few places so went over with some 600 on a soft block on those areas. Found a couple of area's that needed a touch of filler too, some pin holes etc. so took care of those. Marked out all of the areas that broke through to metal / filler with some masking tape, next step is to drape clear plastic over everything, pick out those spots, back mask and then put the spot primer on. Hoping to get that sorted tonight, get the spot primer on tomorrow, sand on saturday and start with colour on sunday!

That would have been nice! Somehow, it took the entire weekend to mask off the car and the areas that needed primer :wtf:
Monday i got the spot primer on, so that's good! Just need to go over the areas with some 600 lightly, to get a scratch in there and make sure it blends in with the rest of the panel. I also need to sand the inside of the trunk lid as that had no primer on it.

I have a NASCAR driving experience booked on Saturday (go birthday treats!) but it's a weather permitting thing. If it goes ahead, i'll be doing that final sanding on sunday. If it gets cancelled due to rain, then i can do the sanding on saturday and start with red on sunday.

It was! If you ever get the chance, go for it and get 8 laps at minimum... takes a few to get used to the car and confident enough to put your foot down. The nice thing is that you're in there on your own, no one sitting next to you telling you what to do and taking over the controls for you. A lot of fun when you get into the groove  The day i was there, they had a muscle car experience day on the inner track (the NASCAR part was done on out oval), so just sat on the pit roof after the drive and watched some muscle cars
while having a burger. Good times :D

So, we have paint on, but it's not all a good story.

Painted the car in 3 parts. Prep takes a bloody long time! Most of the parts are good but:

1) Knocked the rear bumper off its stand a couple of days after it had been painted, whilst painting the doors. some scratches in the clear coat but one is deep enough into the primer. So that needs a repair.

2) Had quite a nasty run on the passenger side door in the clearcoat. It seems to have discoloured the colour - not sure if this is just because there's thicker paint, causing it to seem darker in those areas. Need to wet sand all of the top half of the door to find out.

3) Found a small ding in the qaurter panel - not sure how it got there, not happy about that. Soon as i saw it once the colour was on, decided not to waste time and clear coat on it. So that needs sanding, filler, primer, colour and then the whole shell needs sanding so that it can be clear coated.

2 steps forward, one step back.
