Hi,

Please can someone inform me if GPS speedo's are legal, if so what is the signal like?, as wouldn't be a good idea if the signal keeps dropping off!
I'm thinking of getting an Autometer GPS speedo.

Many thanks from Luke

Car Details:1969 SS, originally a 396, now a 350. Never having raced an American V8 before, I am not the world's expert on Camaros ! But I read Road & Track and HotRod Magazine from the early Sixties (yes, it's the only thing I can rememberabout the 60s) and always wanted one.

Also race a 1965 Alfa GTA, and drive a 1938 Lancia Aprilia and a 1922 Talbot 8.
Luke,
I have been using a GPS speedo in my '69 when the OEM speedo was u/s. It is Chinese-manufacturer, WDS-02, cost about £65. So far as my research showed, these are legal - they are a legit method of determining speed. It normally acquires a sat signal within a mile or so of start-up and seems to be spot-on accurate. Sat coverage is going to be the same as satnav. The green digi display can be difficult to read in direct sunlight, but if you put it somewhere well-shadowed, you will be OK.

Battery holds a charge for about 20+ hours. I sourced it about 2 years ago from the Demon Tweeks catalogue. Let me know if you've got other questions.
Nick

I'm looking at getting new auto meter gauges, so will look like a standard speedo installed in the dash!
