First I thought it was a sticky tappet or something so I put some marvels magic oil stuff and hoped for the best, then I wondered if it could be a tiny blow from the manifold so we put it up on the ramps, three of the spark plugs on one bank had started to make their way off somewhere or other and were actually moving in and out of their sockets as the engine ran!!!
They are a real pain in the arse to get to in a 4th gen LT1 so I'm unsure if someone has attempted to change them at some point in a half hearted manner or they are the original's but it certainly goes a lot better now they have been tightened up , I'll have to disconnect the ECU to reset it to the default map and let it begin the learning process again now they have been fixed, so I was running on about 6 cylinders worth of compression for the last year :-) , only the gearbox whine to deal with left now as I think I have been through everything else

Yeh plugs are a bugger of a job. I had mine changed on my last LT1 it took a specialist 5 .1/2 hours along with changing the leads.

I think it's all a lot easier to access if you have the vehicle up on a ramp but either way its a nightmare job to do which is putting me off of fitting nitrous oxide to it , I understand the leads have to run inside some metal channels also and if not can cause misfires on an LT1

I'm I remember hearing that it's easier to change 4th gen plugs and lead from underneath ....

I thought my 3rd gen was bad enough when I bought it, the engine is in the right place not back under the cowl,
but there were so many pipes and emissions parts.
Threw all that away, now I can change plugs quick and bloodless.

Sometimes I wonder what "Research & Development" really means......screw the folks down the road on maintainence.

I can't even see the plugs and leads on my 4th gen with the bonnet up
