Wow... 5 years :o

5 years ago I was throwing mine around Brands Hatch on about my 3rd or 4th ever trackday.... .. I bought mine 11 years ago this month too.. It turned from cheap yank runaround, with a "just gonna get it a bit nicer to drive, without doing too much " point of view... to what it is now. Amazing how things turn out.

Hopefully the warmer weather and easier working conditions will help get it done.... Your could call your car 'Project Hindsight' when it's all done (hopefully in only a few months... )

Now that is the sensible thing to do! At first i would have thought i would be doing some fun stuff after a few months. Still waiting lol.

After running some errands on Saturday, i managed to get a bit of wet sanding done, the mirrors and other spoiler side are done. Need to do the mirror pods, trunk fill panel and centre spoiler next. Thought i'd get them done by the end of the wekeend just gone. It was nice on Sunday actually, 13c in the garage, warmest in there so far this year. If that keeps up, i'll have a bit more motivation to be out there. The cold just gets to you after a while, especially with the wetsanding as your feet and hands get wet, making it feel even colder and just makes it all that less fun. Looking forward to longer sunshine hours too along with the warmer as i can do a bit of work in the evenings that way too. Motivation is pretty much at 0 when you get home from work tired, it's dark and cold. Bring on spring and ultimartely, the completion of the car!

Lol perfect name for the project! You did it the right way with yours, keeping it on the road and doing it bit by bit. Was it ever off the road for long?

Dunno if I did it the right way, I just didn't intend for it to ever be a 'project' initially... Longest it was off road was about 7 weeks for the big body rebuild and respray back in summer 2005... Since then only a couple of weeks at a time for various suspension, gearbox, engines, roll cage etc...

Good to hear your feeling more inspired as the weather warms.... :chevy:

Yep that'll be the right way lol

So the latest with project hindsight is that i finished wet sanding the small parts e.g the spoiler, trunk fill panel. The trunk filler panel in itself was fun... i found a crack in the primer due to a crack in the filler, due to the part itself flexing (it's not installed, so flexes about when moving / sanding, which i think caused the crack) so i need to dig it out and refill. It's a hair line crack but it still means redoing a small section. Other than that, put the blower motor back together and reinstalled it (random i know - got bored of noon stop bodywork so decided to take it apart, clean and repaint one day and never got around to installing it, so reinstalled it and tested yetersday). Also cleaned the garage a little, moved some things around, just for a change of scenery to make it a bit less dull lol.

Next is to start sanding the shell  I plan on starting with the roof, then i can take a lot of the masking off of the engine and then crank it from the starter. Fuel lines are there, as is the tank etc. but no fuel in yet. I will need to weld subframe connectors which are close to the fuel lines so i thought i would stay safe and weld before having fuel in the lines. I was also thinking that it may not be a good idea having exhaust fumes around the primer. As the spark plugs are in, i can't crank by hand, hence through the starter. Should be doing that on the next weekend. Would like to get some oil moving around the engine.

Then back to sanding, hopefully be done with the shell by the end of the weekend, maybe even the doors. Then i can mask up, do the spot primer, sand those spots and prep for paint. Hopefully it will be red in April :D

Considering mine is plastic and yours is metal it's not exactly slow Stu, clearly your money has been well spent as you couldn't get away from me but I couldn't pass you, can't wait to do a track day with you and see how they compare on the twisty bits and bobs

Another little update.

Onto the shell now as all of the take off parts are done. Have sanded the roof down to and including the b pillar (aka sail panel). Started wet sanding the drivers side quarter too. Got most of it done above the bodyline, including the wheel lip roll bit. The quarter panel has gone a lot quicker than the roof. The roof ate up a lot of sandpaper and time.

2 small breakthroughs, which are on the a pillar, near the bottom, other than that the roof is good now. Should be able to get both quarters sorted next weekend, really hoping to also get the rocker panels and door jambs done over the weekend. Hate doing both - rocker panels are a b*stard, as you're lying on the cold floor at a funny angle. Door jambs you end up slamming your fingers into the edges constantly. Only way to get em done though. Then onto the doors the following weekend, which completes the mass wet sanding. Then i can remove some masking, turn the engine via the starter to get some oil moving in it. Then mask up for spot primer.

Quarter Panels done and so is the trunk lip bit (where the rubber seal sits and where the trunk lid tensioners are).

Next is the door jambs, then the rocker panels, then the doors.

Then prime the breakthroughs.

You know the rest by now lol
