Car Details:1986 Camaro, bought into Spain by me in 1993.
305 replaced by a 355, 750 Demon carb, RPM AirGap intake, Brodix heads, Hedman Hedders, 3" Flowmaster exhaust.
Wheels are Summit aluminium 5 spokes, tyres are 245 rear 225 front BF Goodrich.
B/M transmission, battery relocated to the rear, GoodMark 4" cowl steel hood.
Location:Spain East Coast
It´s an oil change, not breaking in a rebuilt motor.

"Well it’s not a problem once the engine is broken in. The big issue is when they break the engine in, so if they are rebuilding an older engine they really need to use something like a racing oil where there’s a higher level of phosphorous in it. And racing oils, they can still be the 1,200 parts-per-million and get a good beak in on the engine. After that they are fine at running it at the 800 parts-per-million."

So you think it's only break-in we have to worry about?
Sorry but I disagree. I have never had a problem with break-in, only 'in service' which would include an 'oil change'. Comp and others recommend adding their break-in additive to EVERY oil change even after break-in. I think some of the better oils (as mentioned earlier) do not need this additive but it just shows that the cam manufacturers do not trust all oils to be adequate.

All I can say is it is better to be safe then sorry.
At a not to expensive cost the car will be better protected.

I will be using ZDDP additives every oil change from now on, or a good race oil.

Lowered ,mild body mods,400 cu in SBC engine, Muncie 4speed, 10 bolt posi axle,disc front drum rear.

Good oil and filters changed often are part of my religion !

Also I won't be quoting posts that refer to "Cats" in a 1st.Gen.thread , even if the same gets posted twice ;)

Good to hear , all 1st Gen cars deserve only the best care from good owners .
Those early 327s are great and need to have proper respect 8-)

Just a quick update for those that are interested.
I changed the oil and filter yesterday and took the car for a spin to get it nice and warm and to ensure there are no leaks.
The oil pressure is more stable and the old girl feels like she has more power. I will be running this oil for a month or 2 then another quick oil change to give it a good flush out

Glad to hear it all went well Yappy .
Remember the little extra you spend on a good oil and additive will save you in the long run on the pieces of your engine that did not fail ( cam lobes ) or suffer premature wear ...
I would always prefer to do an oil change to a rebuild .
Ignore those who claim to use cheap or unsuitable oils because Karma is just down the road for them :twisted:

I thought this might be another good little update.
Before I changed the oil I was getting a lot of crankcase pressure blowing out the breather and on extended runs oil dripping from the breather.
Since the oil change nothing at all no oil vapor blowing out the breather.
The only reason I can think there has been such a big difference is that the new oil has reduced piston ring blow by, this can only be a good thing :thumbup:

So those who think they have a large amount of crankcase pressure it might just be the oil you are using

Glad to hear the positive outcomes! I posted a while ago about getting some smoke kick out when i started the car. Since doing a service in November... new oil (Mobil Super 3000 X1 Formula FE 5W-30 full synthetic), filter change, new plugs, it has pretty much stopped doing it. Didn't happen overnight but gradually it has stopped kicking out smoke, oil level is pretty good (little top up every few weeks is all that's needed).
