Couple of questions:

- I'm never had a spare key. Where is the cheapest place to source what I need. Possibly a blank from the US and ask a local key cutter? I also need that little chippy thing? ISTR there are 15 different values - how do I tell which one?

- to my distaste, my car has traction control. Hateful thing. Whilst I can turn it off, it always reverts to ON when the engine is started. Is there anyway to make it power-up to off/disabled?I haven't checked if I can pull a fuse, although I guess that'll kill abs too.

did a bit of reading and there is no easy way really for the pre 97 LT1 cars :S

Found this:

when you disconnect the traction control adjuster motor uner the hood the ecbm fails its diagnostic that occurs when you start the car. it thinks that the adjuster motor has an open circuit and disables just traction control. the light "traction off" lights on the dash and traction control only is disabled. abs and cruise are not affected. it is really easy to test by unplugging the adjuster motor connector and starting the car. i did mine months ago. once i was satisfied that it worked and my abs and cruise were fine i ordered
non traction cables from dal and removed the adjuster motor entirely. my engine looks better and i was able to use a regular stb with no problem. i did some hard stops on gravel to make sure abs worked and i tried the cruise, both ok.

Yes I have the same routine. what spoils it is when I stop the engine without getting out - collecting kids or something.
That and my car has a clutch from hell - in or out. leaving early I don't like to rev the engine (embarrassingly loud exhaust), and sometimes stall and then forget to reset the control to off.

I got my spare key from US ebay (I'll try & find the seller). You need a voltmeter to tell you what chip thing you need & get it cut here. Simples
