I wondered what had happen to my old car.

did you buy it from me?
If you did - don't forget I asked for first refusal if you ever sell. If you didn't then the bloke who sold it to you doesn't remember!

I still regret selling it.

that was the second camaro I sold and regretted. I've bought a 3rd now.

Lol, I brought from a guy in harrow who had to for two or three years I think, it's not been loved much though and sat outside on the road :-( , don't suppose you know who did the brake conversion do you ? I was doing some investigating and there were less than 80 of these coupes made as most were ragtops or t tops, I'm amazed by the handling though , its fecking awesome :-) removed the stripes now as they were rotten , did you import it?
I like your taste in cars

I guess he bought it from me.

I had the car for about 4 years I guess. It was my my family car and eventually the kids just grew too big, so it had to go. I replaced it with an M5 and then and V8 Holden. Neither were anything like as fun. Now I have a discovery for the family and bought a Z28 as a toy. Its not the same as the SS, although it was rather cheaper!

I didn't import it, but I did do the brake conversion.

Did you get all the paperwork with it - I sold it with the ss brochure, build sheet etc? I still think its the pick of the 4th gens.

Let me know if you want to sell.

Hey Jimbo, my friend who I assume collected it with him said it was very well looked after and clean but alas it needs some love now, the bumpers are crazed and the wheels are all scabby, she has a strange noise on pull away which I'm hoping is clutch and not gearbox issues. I have all the info in the history folder but it says nothing about the brake conversion being done, any clues would be brilliant though as I had a warped disc so ordered some new ones from the states, and they are definatley not off of a pre 1997 corvette as I found out £250 later :o
Had to modify the brackets for the callipers ( were these from a kit or did you make them up?) as the offset on the discs I brought was different from the ones you fitted, if you can remember what year and model the callipers came off it would help out as I have no idea what pads to buy for it?(apart from they are not pre 1997 corvette) It's definatley the pick of the 4th gens though and due to its rarity value I'm not intending on parting with it in a hurry besides which once I have sunk a few grand into it it get it back to its "pre sitting outside on the road for years" state it's gonna be an expensive little toy
Regards
Paul

the brake upgrade was a bit of a saga...

The discs and callipers were from a local american car garage (Ian Goss in Surbiton who I think as gone now) C5 corvette (as least that's I wanted and what he told me). that would be a 97+ Model Year corvette, so probably explains why pre-97 is no good

the brackets were bought from a guy in the US who made them up. http://ls1tech.com/forums/lsx-parts-sal ... ckets.html
I then discovered I needed abutment brackets and got these from ebay in US (and nicely enamelled they were/are)

When I fitted it all, the callipers were too far away from the axle so the outside of the pads were 'sticking-out' from the discs.

So I bought some new conversion brackets from the US. http://www.bmrsuspension.com/?page=prod ... superpro=0

these were just the same. so in the end I got an local engineering firm to mod the original brackets to move the callipers closer to the hub.
I never got to the bottom of why the bracket needed modifying - because its a meant to be 'standard conversion'.

So in summary, to the best of my knowledge, everything is from a c5 corvette, except the custom brackets.

OK - you are lucky I will do anything to avoid work :)

Here's the link that was my guide : http://www.ls1lt1.com/forum/chassis-%7C ... odies.html

Even got the part number for you!

Glad to hear you are tidying up the exterior. It was in good shape when I sold, although the stickers were just starting to go. I found the places to buy proper replacements, but decided to leave it to the taste of the next owner.

Wow, awesome information thanks , tbh I'm a little confused as well because it appears the pads only bite on the outer circumference of the disc so only use 50% of what's there, it seems like the calipers aren't suitable for 13"discs ? The front drivers side was warped very badly which could be a result of the outside edge heating up and not the inside maybe, I'm off to read some of the links you provided now I have some light at the end of the tunnel :-)

interesting. that does rather align with the issue I had the of the callipers being too far out. I suspect even after the mod that the pad sat further out from the disk than it should. I figured given how much bigger the corvette disc were it would probably be OK.

I'm surprised that its bad enough to warp the discs.

As I said I never got to the bottom if why things didn't seem quite right. It doesn't help that its difficult to find parts in the uk to check against. ISTR that I did measure the outside diameter of the discs and they were correct for a c5, but I might be wrong
