Hi,
I need to change the battery on my 4th generation z28 (2001).
I understand that if I just transfer it over the computer will be affected.
Can anyone please tell me the correct procedure for changing the battery.
I don't have a manual for it and need your help. Many thanks.

when I changed my 96 z28 I just changed it.

some cars I've had the ECU loses settings it "learned" but they soon learn again, sometimes they run a little less than good for a few miles whilst they relearn, but never had a problem changing a battery on any car.

Glad it worked out ok but it was a good question to ask.

I'm also not sure how and what the ECU can remember. On my Chrysler I found a very cool knife switch because the battery is mounted just inside the drivers side front wing. You have to remove the wheel and then the inner arch trim/plastic to get at it !

I had the circuit broken for about 2 weeks whilst I waited for a new starter motor (now fitted and working well again) and I rememebr hearing quite alot of tapping and hissing noises as I first switched on the ignition. I guess it was creating a default or fail safe configuration ?

One thing I do remember hearing about was not to jump start my Firebird (or Camaro, same difference) becuase the extra power from the auxiliary battery would fry the ECU somehow. Never proved or disproved this theory yet but one to think about.
