Here's how the last week has looked... plotted via googlemaps for accurate distance. I filled up the tank from 1/4 full (not to the click, but close, as gauge showed full) and now it's at about 1/8th remaining, close to the empty marker. It was £43 to fill it - 33.14 litres @1.29 per litre. Driving has been a mix of motorway, urban and rush hour sitting in traffic for 5-10 minutes approx here and there.

Car is 5 speed manual, '87 305 TPI and i don't rev above 2k rpm, trying to be conservative, most gear changes are at 1,500 rpm. In the below, est £ = what google maps estimated for the journey (generic calculation, regardless of car).

Thursday - 45 est £9.66
Friday - 23m est £5.71
Sunday 46m £9.68
Monday 26m est £6.59
Tuesday 63m est £14.10

total miles 203
total est £45.74

If my calculations are correct, then:

33.14 litres / 4.54 (imperial gallon) = 7.29 gallons
203 miles / 7.8 gallons = 27.8 mpg (3.5 miles per litre)

Is that right?
Good / bad? what do you think?
In comparison the clio would get about 320 miles per tank and cost about £38-£40 to fill it from 1/8th to full click. It was a 1.149 16v 5 speed manual. The trip computer would say anywhere between 35mpg's and 46mpg's.

You may need to be more accurate in determining how much fuel you used.
Fill tank to the brim and set your trip mileage to zero.
Drive a few hundred miles then fill up to the brim again taking a note of the exact amount of fuel and total mileage, then calculate.
For even more accurate results fill up at the same time of day to negate any density changes due to the temperature of the fuel in the petrol station storage tanks.

I do a full tank to brim then down to below 1/4 to get real MPG on the daily drivers.

Never bothered with the Camaro as it'll just make me sad... (Did do a full tank at Snetterton track day last year, estimated 80 miles or less = 8 mpg at best )

If the 27 mpg figure is accurate I would be more than happy .
I had 2 Corvettes, one with TBI and one with TPI, both automatic 700R4 and with 350 engines they could deliver this kind of economy on a run cruising .
With the correct axle ratio, injection, and a sensible driving style there is no need to accept the popular myth of "gas hog V8s".

Good points about making the stats more accurate. I was at the filling station last Wednesday and was gonna top it up, but (and not in a bad way) a gentleman came over to say hi, said that he has a 4th gen Firebird and wanted to ask about recommendations on where to get it serviced. He used to own it while in the states for a few years and brought it back over with him. Anyway, while filling up from almost empty, it clicked a £30, so waited a sec, filled again, clicked at £40, waited a sec, filled again, clicked at £50 something but because we were chatting i wasn't concentrating on seeing if it was filled to the brim at this point. So next top up i will make sure it's filled to the brim, count the miles via google maps (tach doesn't count the miles always) , then fill up to the brim and we can work out the cost and miles accurately. Will post results...

On a run i get 28 ( Normally hovering around 70mph) although i do also play with mates whilst still getting those figures.
Around town i get 22-24, this can quite a mixture of cruising and throttle abuse.

Thats in my 1990 5l TBI 5 Speed manual with 3.23 rear end.

When we went Le mans last year we averaged 24mpg over about 1200miles. Although this didn't include the 30euros spent on just donuts and burn outs but did include a quarter of a tank spent on doing burn outs and other beautiful anti-social (or social in this case) behavior.

Your average is pretty good based on those sorts of numbers, certainly quite away from the sub 10's that you sometimes see with big blocks (the true guzzlers?). I think we have the same rear gearing which from what i've read is the lowest ratio. That probably helps the numbers too, having a manual and the lower ratio rear.

Yeah it's not too bad, but I guess having no power helps with the decent mpg lol.
My brothers 6.6 trans am does pretty well for a lumpy cammed up engine, think we got around 18-22mpg to Le Mans in that.

If I remember right the lowest was 3.08 or something? Then ours? It's not that bad a gearing really, don't think I would go higher than 3.73 on a daily driver car if I was to change it.
