A painfully easy question for anyone that knows about the basics of engines (so not me then)! I need to change a belt on the 3rd gen Trans Am, which is for the smog pump, it's a v belt so goes straight from pump to crank. I have loosened the bolt that attaches the pump to the bracket but can't move the pump (there is no belt on there at the moment). It's about half way through the adjustment groove, could go a few inches left or right. When i try sliding the pump to adjust it, nothing happens, just rocks the car from side to side. Bolt is completely loose, am i missing something? tried searching 3rd gen.org but all the search results are about people switching from v belt to serpentine

Where possible, a photo sharing service can be used such as Flickr, Imgur etc. The image location (usually ending in .jpg) can be copy and pasted between the ][ brackets that appear when you click the 'Img' button (you can find this button at the top of the message box).

How to post youtube vids: Click on the 'youtubeHD' button at the top of the message box and in the middle of the ][ brackets that just appeared, copy and paste everything from the youtube web address that appears after the = sign i.e if this is the url: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2cNqaPSHv0 just copy "K2cNqaPSHv0").

Sorted - i was trying to get to the bolt that held the pump at the bottom bracket, could't get the bot to budge. Tried a 3rd bolt, which was to back on the top part, that was next to the track bolt that i had loosened already. As soon as i went to loosen this bolt, the pump moved in along the track, result! So it turns out i had loosened the correct bolt originally, the other 2 didn't need loosening, but the leverage point at the third bolt was able to make it move, so now the belt is snug. You can see why the camaro is taking so long

Very much so! Good news is that it passed the MOT :) Couple of scares on the way though... When i started the car in the morning, a big plume of white and blue smoke came out the exhaust :wtf: Hoping it was because it had been sat for a couple of weeks. Then whilst on the road to the MOT place, heard a big clunk and metallic sound. Pulled over... i had left the spanner on the bottom bolt of the air pump and it came off mid flight  Luckily it was only at low speed, so at that point there were 2 spanners in the road ;)

How was the track day on Friday Stu?

Flying spanner (not the driver) is a bit of worry.. lucky it didn't hit the rad or something.

car Limits Day was fun, gorgeous perfect weather.. Lots of skidding about, and spinning, sometimes intentionally... You'd love it, just get to throw the car around without worrying about hitting or breaking anything...

Did a couple of vids... Not great, as it was just on the phone in the dash holder.. and as you know my dashboard rattles.. ALOT.. so it's the main sound on the vid.. gives an idea though...

Just saw your update on the other thread with pics, looked like a good day :) I do remember the squeaky dash sound indeed, you'll miss it when it's gone lol, if you ever do find the root cause!
