First job is a strip down and rebuild. A few modifications and a clean up.

Many thanks for that offer, and I would love to get an EFI system on the car, as I definately get some fuel evaporation and G force induced starvation sometimes on track.
Unfortunately I need to spend some money getting the worsening body on mine sorted first in reality...

So, I rebuilt the blower, but have had a change of heart. The only reason being that the blower is a bit too old skool for me, and it won't fit under my hood without cutting it about. And to be honest I am rather fond of it!

That said I finished the conversion of the blower, blasted and clear coated the cases, fitted high speed bearings front and rear, machined extra clearances on the rotors and triple pinned the drive shafts to the rotors. So it's all ready to go on gas. Its on eBay...

So what's happening next? Well forced induction is still planned, but something that will fit under the hood, ultimately make more power and I can retain my injection system (albeit with bigger injectors).

A pair of T3/T4 hybrid turbos and external waste gates seemed the order of the day. An unused pair came up cheap on eBay USA and they arrived today. Got to find a set of front mount manifolds, and then build a low compression short block, aiming for 9:1, with forged pistons. Already have the block and a GM forged crank as a start. Going to be aiming at 10-12psi of boost with a FMIC.

Good to meet you on Sunday, and had a quick nosey round your car, and the work is brilliant, and very impressive after seeing all the before pics too. You're skills are quite eviable.
Looking forward to the turbo install now

Couple more bits of progress today. The headers arrived, doesn't look too difficult to modify them to work with the external wastegates.

And I collected a 4L80E too, just needs rebuilding and the output shaft and housing swapping for a 2wd version. Having looked at the parts it's easy to see why they will take so much more power than the 700r4. In hindsight I would have been better off just fitting one of those in the first place, but never mind!

I am considering whether to go the whole hog and build the motor using a Dart block, certainly makes it future proof. Will see how the cash flow goes.

Hit on a tuning issue today, given its the first time I've really been able to open it up and find out what the AFR is like at high rpm after getting the transmission and axle fitted.

It's been running slightly on the lean side after fitting the Edelbrock cotton gauze air filter and filter top so decided I'd do a bit of tuning. Also noticed it was going really way too lean at about 4800rpm.

Checked the fuel pressure and its right at 3bar (44psi) all the way, so that's not the issue. Seems my injectors just aren't big enough to provide enough fuel. They are fully open, 100% duty cycle at 4800rpm. Thats 8x 30lb/hr (8x 315cc/min = 2.52 litres/min) injectors trying to feed it enough fuel at 4800rpm and they just can't keep up.

This really surprises me as I sized them to be *well* on the safe side at around 400hp. Back calculating shows the engine's making 480hp at 4800rpm with 0.5BSFC...

Just as well I have some bigger injectors on the way anyway...
