We're looking at a facelift 4th gen V6 for the Mrs as a daily........anyone know what the expected Mpg might be on a 4 speed auto ?

when I had my 2000 3.8 v6 I used to get near on 30 mpg on a 55 mile motorway run sat at around 75-80. Round town I used to get mid 20's. :D

Lowered ,mild body mods,400 cu in SBC engine, Muncie 4speed, 10 bolt posi axle,disc front drum rear.
68 firebird convertible ( long term project) Stock resto/mod style ,400 pontiac th350
They were designed to give good cruising economy and in a manual version I would say about 30mpg on motorway and about 18 urban, automatics will be slightly less economical .
I have been tempted to think about one as a daily but have resisted the urge so far...

Thanks for the answers,she currently runs a 2.0 Mondeo,the pooter says 32 mpg average.......seems the Camaro may be coming home.

as has been notes a lot elsewhere, (unless the price is right on the v6) then a v8 would always be a better buy of the same spec if you wanted the extra power for little deterioration in fuel ecomony. THey will hit 30 on a run and low to mid 25's in town anyway due to the log 4th in the auto and rear diff ratio :)

It's a 2003 reg euro spec at around 60k miles 2 owner......already got the grin factor with a 79 z28.

I'm happy with the price.

I agree totally
The wife has a Chevy Colorado with the 2.8L 4 banger and gets an average of 22 MPG (US gallons), and I drive a Ford F150 with the V8 5L engine which gets 20 MPG.

As for the V6 v. V8 engine argument.
How many owners of a V6 engined car wish they had the V8.
Now how many V8 owners wish they had the V6 instead?

I have recorded 31.9 average on a long run through France running at about 80mph on the motorways, and I average about 25 mpg around town.

As far as the V6 - V8 debate, it has gone on for years and will continue to do so.

I have had plenty of V8's and loved every one of them but my V6 Camaro is the best American car I have ever driven. It is plenty fast enough for what I need, in fact it's probaly too fast and the extra power from a V8 I couldn't use anyway. But you can only compare like for like. Just my opinion. It's apples and oranges.

Chevy, Check what year it was made, they stopped making them in 2002. :?: :?: :!: :!:

Sometimes a V8 with the right gearing can be more economical and it often depends on the driving style...
Always favored V8 over smaller engines but I guess with a Camaro the V6 has been developed into a nice cruiser.
What era is your F150 ? I would like to find a late '60s -early '70s f100 or 150 as a daily but decent trucks are not cheap or easy to find.
