Just wonder if anyone has used / has experience with these? I'm needing to clean up a bit of creeping rust on a couple of wheel arches and also want to clean up some pieces on the underside, like the tie rods, stabiliser etc. I could get to some parts with a wire wheel but not all places, and don't want to take this car apart otherwise it will turn out like the Camaro and be a '4 years later' scenario

It doesn't have to be this exact device, similar brands etc would also do. I like the idea of it being recirculating, so it won't leave a tonne of mess. You can also take off the rubber nozzle and use it as a regular sand blaster to do larger parts areas, where mess isn't an issue.

Have used a similar blaster and found it worked well on small areas of corrosion.
You will need a fairly decent diy compressor and will have to play around with the pressure to find out what works best.
Also the blasting media gets contaminated and needs changing fairly regularly .
Keep the media dry and it works fine but I doubt it would work without the rubber caps.

They are basically for spot rust, it's very time consuming if you have a lot of rust. We have an old skool one but only use it if there is a bit of creeping rust under paint etc. we get the big blaster out if anythings to big but we use a hydrovane compressor to power that.

Thanks for the advice, I'm still having a think. I have creeping rust on a few wheel arches on the Trans Am that for now, i would just like to clean up and cover with some primer / paint / rust paint (depending how clean i can get it). It's not too noticable at the moment so it's really just to stop it spreading further. I wouldn't go as far as doing a whole panel with the blaster. Compressor is pretty decent, 200litre and 3HP, plus it's hooked up in parrallel to a 50 litre 2HP if it needs some extra juice. It would be nice to also give the suspension components a clean too as they are coated in rust, but i don't want to do to the TA what i did to the Camaro (take one thing off and then suddenly the car's in pieces for years   ), so it's just preventative work at the moment vs. take things apart and off the car. If that were the case then i would be able to get to things more easily and wire brush and do a rust dip bath for the components (That's what i did with the Camaro, mechanically cleaned as much rust as i could, using a wire brush on an angle grinder, then got a plastic tote box and filled it with water and rust removal powder, from Bilt Hamber i think, left all the parts in there for a few days, strirring and scrubbing the parts every now and then to get into any pits etc). But then the domino effect begins and the whole car becomes a resto project lol. Ok i'm rambling... will report back once i make a decision!

Stu- you're more than welcome to borrow it!
