OK, just letting the old brainbox wander a bit here. With all the magazine articles/talk about how great the LS series engines are, let's imagine you had an LS powered car, say 6.0L.
Obviously you couldn't leave it stock and being an excitement-driven individual you like to be a bit scared every time you drive your toy. So, what sort of power level do you think you would be aiming for? Bear in mind you have to pay for the mods plus feed the beast (fuel etc) once it's done so no looney-tunes numbers please.
I am actually going somewhere with this but can't say at present. Someone on this forum may twig it though. Heh Heh.
Cheers, Martin

If it was me, i would be happy with 350hp on mine... 1hp per cubic inch. I guess a 6 litre would be 366CI, so 366hp? Should be enough to get out of a sticky situation, move through the gears happily but not be undriveable or too expensive to run. Interested to see how this resolves

How to post pics: When writing a message, scroll down and use the "attach file" option. Where possible, a photo sharing service can be used such as Flickr, Imgur etc. The image location (usually ending in .jpg) can be copy and pasted between the ][ brackets that appear when you click the 'Img' button (you can find this button at the top of the message box).

How to post youtube vids: Click on the 'youtubeHD' button at the top of the message box and in the middle of the ][ brackets that just appeared, copy and paste everything from the youtube web address that appears after the = sign i.e if this is the url: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2cNqaPSHv0 just copy "K2cNqaPSHv0").

6l LS...? I'd be disappointed with less than 500hp. Should be just right

Car Details:68 pontiac firebird coupe project car,my aim is a street friendly, lightly modified pro.touring style.
Lowered ,mild body mods,400 cu in SBC engine, Muncie 4speed, 10 bolt posi axle, disc front drum rear.
68 firebird convertible ( long term project) Stock resto/mod style ,400 pontiac th350
Between 500 and 600 hp
500 could be a salvage truck unit with better heads and a streetable cam. Not too expensive.
600hp would mean more expensive additions and would be less streetable .
In the real world probably best to ship a low mile 'Vette salvage motor from the US.

Well the 6.2 LS3 in the C6 'Vette and 5th gen Camaro is standard at 430bhp (and about the same torque), but apparently are good for a 'real' 500bhp with just a cam change and a decent exhaust.

If I 'happened' to be in the market for a swap I'd go this way (or twin turbo LS for 700bhp if I had another few grand)

Mmmm, good question.......I reckon that 550 hp would be about on the money for useable street use, but probably with Fuel Injection to make the beast a bit easier on the pocket & easier drive ability ie not so cobby. But, 600-650 hp would be good, but again it would depend on fuel consumption & driveability. It would have to be a "stick" car, probably with a lowish back end ratio but with a 5 speed to keep the cruisability..... .........ok, what do I win??

cheers...Nige
