I'll admit it - I've been toying with selling the IROC-Z.
Had a look on Autotrader to see what else has been up, found this:

So, question is, how optimistic is the seller? Or are they actually moving for that sort of cash?

Very optimistic! it's worth not even half that. No offence to it of course. It's a dealer so they've easily added a few grand ontop already.

It´s a bloody nice example, if I had that money lying around I´d buy it in a heartbeat.

The impression that I've got of the market at the moment for the 3rd gen is a good one could be had for about £4000.
For £9995, I'd expect it to be dipped in gold.
And yes, it looks like a gorgeous example! I'd expect £5000 on a good day might be more realistic.

Mind you, mine is a year younger and 9k fewer miles on it, so the first person to put £9000 in my hand can have it!

Like you say £5k if you're lucky. You can ask whatever you want for a car but selling it is something else!

That seems about right for the V8's, with the V6's coming in at the mid to late 2k's. Saying all that though, PA Fbodies on here just recently sold his son's Z28, very clean etc for 2k - Bargain!

Interesting thread.
Interesting for the reason that it compares and equates with other car forums in regards to the current prices of any particular cars.
In my experience a lot of people join forums to get help. Totally understandable and of course natural. Unfortunately a significant percentage of `car enthusiasts` are, lets be charitable, short on funds. A lot of people are on a budget and as such they seek the `cheapest` this or the `best value` that, often criticising the more expensive option as being a waste of money or the latest model or newest version of a car for lacking `soul` or not being aesthetically pleasing to the eye. The point I`m getting to is the value of anything is purely subjective and in the form of a motor car the variables involved far supercede the the flippant opinions and hasty price tags thrown in the direction of a photograph. In other words a one owner concours car is worth way more than a 9 owner high miler daily beater with issues. As a result anyone with something special is justified in asking more for something better. That is where the problem lies. I would say that ISN`T up for dispute but people will dispute anything and not because they are necessarily correct.
The antithesis is most motor traders are by nature liars. Most, but not all. I don`t apologise in the slightest for that disparaging remark as it`s their job to shift stock and their business to sell you a car. They will play on the `clean` low mileage thing like they are doing you a favour but the same man will sell you a duffer next week with some `wear and tear` to be `expected`. Add the need to make a profit into the equation and we`re on rocky ground with prices just being picked out of the air.
As with anything, see the thing first then decide, don`t compare it with the bargain (rusting pile of junk) your mate bought for for £xxxx.

All generally true, and quite often you do get what you pay for..
Couple of other points are:
These are generally (unless we're talking about the last few years of the 4th gens) old cars, and by nature that means some form of gamble as to what's worn, broken etc... nothing is guaranteed.
It's a very specialist market, so anyone wanting or needing a quick sale will take considerable less than waiting for the 'right' buyer over a year or so.

It would be interesting to see what we all think our cars might sell for, if we were interested in selling, which most aren't . When out in my car I quite often get asked all the usual questions, as I'm sure we all do, how fast is it, MPG, etc.. but quite often the what's it worth comes up, and I really don't know what to answer because I haven't got a clue...
