can a car be beyond restoring ?????
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1969-Chevrole ... 2c72faebbf

i'm really no expert but nearly everything would need replacing...would it be worth the cash other than swapping the vin with a less desirable model

Ooh, you do sound like a coward. Of course a car can be beyond restoring but that one is really no worse than the '69 Mustang I was given for scrap which I built up into a racer by repairing and fabricating everything I could to keep costs down. After I sold that one, it went on to be the cover car in the July 2008 issue of American Car World, along with a steaming pile of horsepoo and lies inside about the car.
Cheers, Martin

I cannot disagree with you there! Especially if you are the kind who buys rather than makes/repairs parts. The first one would be an ideal candidate for a racer, not spending on expensive 'restoration' parts but just what it takes to get it together and running. Let's just hope someone saves it.
Cheers, Martin

So its clearly not worth doing is what they are saying ;)

As Mart says, turn it into something like a racer etc. It's an SS BUT no matching engine or trans so it's just SS decals and trim that you're (over)paying for.

Is it me or are the prices of non running project cars getting a bit ridiculous?

How to post pics: When writing a message, scroll down and use the "attach file" option. Where possible, a photo sharing service can be used such as Flickr, Imgur etc. The image location (usually ending in .jpg) can be copy and pasted between the ][ brackets that appear when you click the 'Img' button (you can find this button at the top of the message box).

How to post youtube vids: Click on the 'youtubeHD' button at the top of the message box and in the middle of the ][ brackets that just appeared, copy and paste everything from the youtube web address that appears after the = sign i.e if this is the url: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2cNqaPSHv0 just copy "K2cNqaPSHv0").

The Pontiac jumped the lights on the second run, but the right lane looks to be 'faster' anyway, probably better traction. Lots of that 'stock appearing' drags is interesting, even though I'm not really into drags any more. Just into stealth bombing, hence the interest in stock appearing......

I'd be interested in doing that snotter of a '69, but not at the money it's going for as it's beyond my meagre budget to spend on another toy :( . I've probably got most of the body panels already, or would be able to locate them cheap via my contacts & what I haven't got I could make, so in that respect I'm fortunate I guess, just too much money for me, which is a great shame as I'd like to build that into a racer like Marts. hell, I could even paint it in Penske/Donohue Sunoco colours as per my other thread on the Penske cars

cheers...Nige

You can now buy a complete unvinned bodyshell

so the question arises - if you reshell a car around an existing VIN - is that OK? Perhaps a chunk of firewall from original car is all that you need??

the 69 racecar that had the huge smash at Spa (in earlier threda somewhere) now has a new shell for eg (and is a z/28)

???
