The Camaro Club (UK)

Hi all, my name is Chris and I am from the Falkirk area. Just found this forum tonight and after a short browse I reckon this is the place for me. It looks like a great site with plenty to see and expertise to learn from.
I don't currently own a Camaro but I am on the lookout for one with a fairly modest budget of around £3000. I'd love a 2nd gen but think a 3rd gen is probably more realistic at my budget.
Anyway, looking forward to being part of the forum.

Thanks for the welcome. I'm in no real rush, I'd rather take my time and find the best car I can afford rather than the first one that comes along. I am happy to travel for the right car too so hopefully that will help.

Thats the best strategy Chris (no real rush). I looked at 4 before buying. 3rd gens are cool cars. Still have that old school muscle car look about them that the newer models lack a wee bit.
Good that you haven't followed the flock and bought a Mustang.
Any links you,re interested in, fire them up and somebody could offer help.
Bear in mind there will be a bit of travelling involved.

There is a couple of cars on eBay at the moment two firebirds and one Camaro. The Camaro is a V8 down in Devon which looks decent enough but the firebirds look in better condition but are v6 models. Are the v6 cars any good or is a v8 a must?

The purple Firebird looks nice (on my phone) but could you live with 140hp?
The black 92 reading between the lines sounds suspect to me. The ad reads 'getting shot of this car'. Maybe the car,s ok. I,m a skeptical bugger. The odo not working is actually quite common. The mileage is anyones guess but when its cheap does it matter? On the other hand it,s a huge journey to find out its not for you. It is a V8 though. The 3.1s arent the fastest but ok It,ll probably go better than the 140hp reads but if you,re looking to enter into the American V8 arena you,re better ( in my opinion) to do so with a V8.

To be fair the 4th gen Camaro 3.8 V6s aren't too bad and are affordable but maybe not as desirable.

My thoughts on the old V6 versus V8 arguement are, that whilst the V6 cars are generally fine, particularly in the the 4th gens, are enough for most people, you'll always wish you had a V8, and resale-ability and value will always be better with a V8..(and better to tune)

Cheers guys, you've pretty much confirmed what I was already thinking. The hunt continues....

How good are you with body work / mechanics? It's always an option to get a fixer upper with a V6 for cheap, then get a V8 block etc.
