Wheel and tyre bonus

We have heard about a new consignment of steel wheels and Recip Mud tyres now available at 4x4tyres.com at Leeming Bar, North Yorks. This special delivery of some 1500 steel wheels range from 15x7 through to 16x10 and are available in silver or black finishes. Prices start from an amazing £29.00, so they are sure to sell well. The wheels would go well with the Portuguese Recip Mud terrain tyres. Sounds like some bargain off-road rubber as well.

Good find. I wish they could just let you search for wheel sizes on the site! Maybe just email them!

Camaro Wheels
Classic Industries produce a 15X 8" rally wheel with 4.5" backspacing-this enables the wheels to fit all Camaros 67-72, Chevelle 64-72 and Nova 64-72
The original came with 4" backspacing 5 stud with 4.75 PCD BS4
Global West recommend the following:
67-69 Camaro 16 X 8" wheel with 5" backspacing in conjunction with 245x50 x 16 tyres

So converting a Chev/Jag 4 and 3/4 inch PCD you get 120mm (I think) which means the Disco 2 and X5 may fit?

4.75" = 120.65mm so perhaps they would?

Here's a handy list and according to that, Disco's are 120mm and Camaro's are 120.7mm. I'm no engineer, but i wonder if you could file out the extra 0.65mm... Maybe there's already a level of tolerance included in the Disco wheels that includes the 0.65mm? Would the centre bore make a difference? Camaro has a bore closer to 70, again, only a couple of mm's difference at most.

I've been using BMW wheels for 8 years, and never had issues, and my car gets properly hammered !!!
The 0.7mm difference on the 5 x 120 BMW and Discovery 2 wheels to Chevy 5 x 120.7 is barely noticeable and the wheel nuts centre themselves if properly tightened in turn., but definately would want hub rings to get the correct centre bore.
If you look at the Camaro front and rear hubs the wheel is centred for a good 1/2" or more, so the wheel bolts/nut, only hold it on, and the hub takes the weight.

The guide above is very handy for seeing what fits what...

I've heard they ain't great. I've driven my neighbours Disco 3 a couple of times, seems OK, bit crap on fuel for a diesel, but I was towing. Freelander is even worse though !!!! :o

My new wife had a Disco 2 2005 last TD5 auto -(I think it was a Disco 2)

SIMPLY APPALLING

slug slow- not much better after a remap eg
thought I was going to kill all of us when overtaking a caravan on A30 seeing a car 2 miles away
Went to overtake and revs rose and that was it............!

No additional speed whatsoever thought we were all going to die

After a DMS Remap only slightly better

Went offroad shooting
tried to follow my Ghillie's Rav 4 which had not good tyres on turnaround in mud

got stuck

tried to engage the Difflock- to find the lever was disconnected as it had ABS brakes - they didn't bother to remove the lever- but they had removed the sticker!

APPALLING

TC - you mentioned you had 275's on an 8" rim... how's that working out? I'm reading mixed results. The guys over at NastyZ28 seem to be happily driving around with 275's on 8's and some of the mustang guys are doing it too. Other research is showing that people say that a 245 is the max size and are having a go at any one thinking of putting on 275's. I worked it out that it's 10.8" on an 8" which means it's 2.4" wider, which is 1.7" each side wider than the rim, which can't be too bad right? Want to hear from people who actually have experience running the combo :)
