Thanks Stu. It's coming on. Just spent another 3 hours rubbing down the front bumper/nose and epoxying it. Seem to be spending every spare moment sanding down filler or primer! :wtf:

Not far to go now!

Got your message...will reply via pm

That SataJet is a darn good gun, that finish is very smooth. Shame about the conditions, you could pull of a damn good job there!

I'm right there with you... sanding the front bumper for over 4 hours last night, so much dust! Hope to have it ready for primer by the end of the week. Keep it up

Thanks Ray.

Rather busy night again and it's got it's nose back.... needs a couple of little tweaks here and there when I take it off for final paint. Shouldn't be a problem  Got mixed up with primer colours somewhere along the line

Doesn't fit too badly for a GRP repro

Have a new repro standard Z28 style front spoiler as well, so thought I would throw it on and see if it fitted. Amazingly, it's not too bad. Could be better on the RH spat, but there's little I can do about that really. Again a few minor adjustments for final fit will get it good enough to make me happy.

Think I am going to stick with the stock Z28 spoiler.

Bought all the paint today.... £600 worth! :o Also got a quote to spray the car which was quite reasonable. But I need to do an awful lot of it myself. Not that its a problem as long as I crack on with it super quick

Little more progress. Spent most of the week prepping and re-painting the trunk lid. The only panel I didn't strip to bare metal and the primer cracked, presumably reacted with the old paint. Pleased I did strip it as it had been at least 6 different colours!

Prepped and painted a load of trim parts this morning, along with the rear bumper bar. Lots of messing around to get it all sorted. Got there in the end though. Grilles will be body colour and the headlight and marker bezels black, same as stock Z28.

Then spent a couple of hours trimming up the hood so it fitted between the wings and over the air cleaner and coils. Still needs some minor adjustment and straightening of the edges, but I'll deal with that once its mounted. The aim is to have it on the stock hinges, and then 4 pins along the front. Might need more just to hold it in alignment though. Firstly want it on the hinges so it's held in position properly, then I can make reinforcements and adjustments as needed. It's going to take a good few hours to get it right... so thats the rest of this weekend and next most probably accounted for...

Lots of messing around to get the bonnet mounts sorted today. Was going to make up some fancy sheet metal mounts that fitted snugly in the hinges. But then changed my mind and went for the simple option for a change  1/4" plate with a couple of turned bosses. Bolted to the hinges and laid the bonnet on in the right place. Marked around the mounting plates from underneath

Image

Glued the plates on, and now have to wait until tomorrow for the resin to go off, then they will be 'glassed in. Should hold it. Once it's back on I'll need to sort out the fitment issues, of which there are many. Then decide where best to put the pins along the front edge.

Image

All good fun....

Gratuitous engine bay shot

Is that bonnet just a flat piece with no edges ?

Certainly is  Needs a lot of work to get it to fit, but it's doable. :wtf:

Silly question, but how does it keep it's shape ? Sure you'd need the lip for some kind of rigidity....
