Getting to the point of sorting the color.... anyone able to tell me how much paint I'll need to do the whole body including all of the shuts, underside of the trunk lid and hood? Don't want to run out, and I would rather buy all the color in one hit to make sure it all matches.

Also need to decide what color to go with, anyone any suggestions? I know I don't want black or yellow. Was thinking of going back to stock charcoal grey but I am not really sure, nor have I decided what if any stripes to put on it. I've got a hugger style front end for it. All suggestions welcome

Stock colour:

Bright blue

Hugger Orange - as I have the hugger front splitter

Why don't you go for Lambo Orange now? :D

Nige and Neil will be able to tell you to the millilitre how much you'll need, i can go from my last paint job on the Camaro and tell you based on that how much i used. I have the receipts at home so will check tonight for you. I think i used 2.5 litres of high build primer (5:1 mix so 0.5 litre hardener + 10% thinner = total of 3.3 litres through the paint gun). I did door jambs plus the interior with that amount. I think the colour was a little more. It was a 3:2:1 mixing ratio, i think i ended up with 6 litres in total... 3 litres colour, 2 litres hardener, 1 litre thinner. I did have paint left over, again, i did the interior plus the inner wheel wheels, rad support and all the little metal parts that make up the front end. I'm sure you could get away with 1 litre less easily. that is single stage paint mind (still 2k). For a Base Coat, Clear Coat system, you are only needing 2 coats of base (maybe 3, depending on the colour but 2 is normal), so only a couple of litres through the gun Base coat is usually 2:1 ratio if i remember right,). Then clear, 3 litres max should be enough. Hope that helps as a guide, always better to have more than not enough

Regarding colour choice, of course, it's your car so whatever makes you happy... my thought is that i'm not a fan of blue on the 2nd gens. Hugger orange is nice, haven't seen an orange 2nd gen in the UK before, but have seen black, yellow and red.

Friend of mine used to have an Orange 73' camaro, but the flat colour (might have been Hugger Orange) Did look nice, with black stripes..

I meant the lovely Lambo metallic pearl, like this

I might well paint mine that next year.. probably do the stripes too.. :D

I agree with Ray, and think the blue isn't the best colour for 2nd gens shape, but it suits the 3rd gens as it's a boxier shape.
I think you'll regret the grey metallic, as it's just not exciting enough. I'd definately go more vibrant, especially with the hugger front end, so orange red, yellow, or even white with red or blue stripes looks good too, bit like the Pace Car colours, very rare too..

Thanks guys, food for thought. Yes that Lambo orange is very nice. Colour is called Arancio Atlas

Funny enough I was thinking last night about the Ford ST Orange which is a very similar colour

The white looks good!

How about a compromise, Japanese style :)

I reckon the 2nd gen could pull of that 'kermit green' that Porsche were using around the same period.

I don't really like bright garish colours, so I would try something darker maybe a dark silver or even better a metallic dark slate gray like some Jaguar/Merc/BMW paints.
To make more impact Z28 stripes on the hood a and trunk in black and a satin black 'blackout' panel round the tail lights as some performance models had in the late '60s early '70s.
Will be interested to see the paint when you post it here
