If you owned a highly modified car that had been "dumbed down" to look almost totally factory original, a "sleeper" in other words, when people asked you about it would you tell them what has really been done to it, or just keep it to yourself & maybe a few of your very close friends? If a magazine wanted to feature it, would you let the cat out of the bag & tell the world what you've done or not?

In the magazines people go into raptures saying about the modifications that have been done to their cars & what "must have" parts that have been fitted. would you spill the beans??

I'm just curious as to what people would do in this scenario

cheers...Nige

Half half. I live in a small town so things would be hard to hide.
Word would get out so I,d kinda say its 'had a few tweaks'.
:P

Ok, so the car looks all original & the engine bay looks all original, everything IS hidden, so there's nobody but you & the very few close friends that know what you did, that know it's not bone stock. Lets say the car is badged as having a small, small block but it really has a very big small block & loads of parts on the car are made to look stock but they're not, do you ever let the "world" know what it really is or just keep it to yourself?

Cheers..Nige

Interesting question Nige. I would be tempted to go the route of tell your close mates and reveal a few snippets to the public, as it were. Keep em guessing, let the rumours get around... after all mystery and conspiracy is more exciting than truth. Which means that reality is scarier than fiction. After all, a good magician never reveals all his secrets. Gives the car a certain enigma that way. So... when's the magazine shoot lol?

Where possible, a photo sharing service can be used such as Flickr, Imgur etc. The image location (usually ending in .jpg) can be copy and pasted between the ][ brackets that appear when you click the 'Img' button (you can find this button at the top of the message box).

How to post youtube vids: Click on the 'youtubeHD' button at the top of the message box and in the middle of the ][ brackets that just appeared, copy and paste everything from the youtube web address that appears after the = sign i.e if this is the url: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2cNqaPSHv0 just copy "K2cNqaPSHv0").

This guy took the words right out of my mouth (about a minutes worth on the subject):

Cool quote at the end of the vid "At the end of the day, it's the quiet ones that you should be paying attention to".

Walk softly and carry a big stick.
Say nothing but maybe take them for a short drive before/after the photo shoot.
Actions speak louder than words.
Just my 2p

Hi Ray, sorry to disappoint you, but there's no photoshoot, as my car's just a plain old stock 302 cu in, Z/28, '69 Camaro, with some old alloy wheels fitted, so wouldn't really interest very many people . I was just curious to see if people would spill the beans or not as to what they've done to their car, as I know some people that have cars that look stock/original but aren't really in any sense of the word.

cheers...Nige

Here's another "would you?". If a magazine asked you if you wanted your car featured would you do it or not?? There are some really nice cars out there & the owners don't want to have them in a magazine, would you?? If yes, why would you do it & if no why not?

cheers,,,Nige

Depends on how much I had put into my car to make it that bit better or how I thought my car would fare against other cars in the magazine.

I mean who would want to read a about a relatively stock 4th gen Z28 with a couple of add ons?

If however I had jazzed it up and thought people might be interested in it then yes, I would.

It depends on why and the uses of the car I think... i love the idea of a sleeper, definately harder to build than with all weapons on display, so to speak.
The late 60's trans am race comments a while back showed that, with all the sneaky under the radar mods the Donahue cars had for example.

If it was built as a street racer, then yes I can really see the fun in that, especially in the racing for cash type/ Fast n' Furious type scenarios.

If people know about the vehicle and all the mods, then it means it'll have a better chance of selling for a decent price though, as you sort of build your own provenance, or if you own a garage and the car is a bit of a 4 wheel demo vehicle.

I think everyone and every situation is different.
