Those steel wings are completely buggered, the pics make them look good! The top edges are well battered, the inner reinforements are completely rotted. Even after patching and some serious panel beating there would be a lot of filler to get them even close to right. It'd only be a matter of time before they started rusting through again. The only way to fit steel ones would be to buy pattern replacements and at £200 a throw, they aren't cheap either, well outside budget!

The pics obviously dont show the true extent of damage :oops: £200 aint cheap so glass sounds the way .Could you not reinforce the underside of the wings to take the hinges ? also iff you took out the springs and just use the hinges :?: would be less pressure on the wings, just a thought :crazy:

Well, havent done much on the car for a few weeks. Been too hot and I've been busy messing around with bikes!

Anyway, I have finally got around to skinning the other door. Needs finishing off before hanging it. Then on to getting the front wings sorted.

Good to hear of an update! My garage was up to 40 degrees on some days :doh: but rather that than minus 5 like it was over winter.

Thought it was about time I finished this thing off... booked a week off work, which coincided nicely with pulling the muscles in my lower back last weekend. So progress has been very slow!

But I started with skinning the other door, giving it a coat of epoxy inside and out and then fitting it up. It didn't go quite as well as the other one and needed a bit of grinding on the back edge to even up the gap. Nothing too serious though. Eventually got it somewhere close enough, needs a little skim of filler here and there

Spent a couple of days repairing the driver side fender. Wasn't too bad but I've had enough of grinding and welding now! Painted the inside with silver Jotun epoxy so its just filler and the outside to do. Cut the hole in for the fender vent as well, was fairly strightforward. Fitted it up today, not too bad. Gap at the door is a little bigger at the top than the bottom and I've run out of adjustment. So that will have to do. The overall shape of the door is fairly good though, which was a relief.

Should have the passenger side fender done tomorrow, painted and ready to fit saturday. Aim by the end of the weekend to have all the panels on to see what it all looks like!

Yep, me too. Far too long coming, there will still be a lot of work to do, all the prep work on the front end panels is going to take some time. Also need to make the bonnet fit properly, which is going to be a nightmare.

It'll all be worth it in the end.... apparently! :wtf:

Sir, sir, sir.... we are being very casual about the fact that there is a Jurassic Park duvet being used in these pictures. I applaud thee at the choice of night time comfort.

Very good to see the panels being mounted, it will be a good feeling indeed when you've got them all test fitted in the next few days. I'm right there with you - got this week off work to work on the car and progress is slow too, as i have somehow managed to have been given the task of babysitting two puppies (one is not potty trained :( ). So i can almost count the hours of work done on the car on both hands :evil: But, they are cute (the puppies, not my hands).

It will be :thumbup: . Even though i thought mine was done over a year ago, i went almost back to scratch half way through and it's already worth all the pain. I could primer it tomorrow if i really wanted to, piece together an exhaust and stick the windows in and drive it, and i'd be pretty darn happy. You're doin it right, which is taking time, but you'll get years out of it. You could have thrown it together and done a cut n shut type of deal to get it on the road quick, but you wouldn't get the same enjoyment out of it. Keep up the top work, you're a damn sight closer than you've ever been, keep going!!
