Car Details:68 pontiac firebird coupe project car,my aim is a street friendly, lightly modified pro.touring style.
Lowered ,mild body mods,400 cu in SBC engine, Muncie 4speed, 10 bolt posi axle, disc front drum rear.
68 firebird convertible ( long term project) Stock resto/mod style ,400 pontiac th350
Royal Pontiac-blast from the past ! 8-)
Back in the day they did some very nice cars for the Pure Stock drag class, cars ran mid 13s with only ignition and carb jetting mods on terrible Wide Oval tyres. 400 motors were standard spec .
With headers, modern rubber and a little weight reduction the car would be running 12s, not bad for a totally streetable daily driver
They also did some wilder things for customers like 428 conversions with multiple carbs...

That car doesn't look like it's set up for drag action at all with the big tyres at the front...

I'm assuming Royal was the Pontiac version of Yenko or Baldwin.. A keen dealer with racing aspirations

Royal Pontiac really came into it's own in the early '60s , well before the COPO Chev dealers such as Yenko, Baldwin and Dana.
They drag raced their own team cars from the late '50s onwards, first team to exceed 100 mph and run 13 quarter in 1959 in the Super/Stock class. They won the NHRA Daytona winternats in 1960.
They used the fame to sell very fast street cars , sold as Royal Bobcats they had specialy tuned engines, all the best factory options and custom wheels.
The work done by Ace Wilson the owner of Royal Pontiac eventually led to the development of the original GTO, widely considered the first true muscle car...
