Some in car footage from Bernies V8 series. This Shelby is incredibly quick, especially at the start

I really don't get the Autocross thing :wtf: I'm guessing they're taking it very easy in that video.
Nearest thing we have in the UK is Autosolo, but they tend to use small nimble cars, like Mini's, Caterhams, MX5's etc.. and they really throw them things around.. I think most Americans are scared of actually spinning off track, or bumping into other cars on a real circuit.

Same goes for most people here, too. I think it's one of the main reasons musclecar owners don't race, followed by, or equal to, cost.
Cheers, Martin

Well, I'm doing my best to coax people out on track days... more fun, less cost and risk of damage than 1/4 mile IMO..

I don't get these either:

Makes you wonder about the aftermarket companies that sell performance enhancements... why don't they test it on an actual track i.e that's has bumps, real corners and some sort of speed. It's almost the equivalent of a chrome show and shine... or hanging out with Usain Bolt but deciding to do a 1 lap jog around the garden. Now i'm not saying i would race mine competitively like Martin on here does (i would love to but couldn't deal with the heartbreak if it got damaged) but i would like to take it on a track... the type of thing the Chevy Stu does and mentioned earlier. I will be there one day Stu, i just need to finish building it

Must take a look at the at Vintage drag race vid :)

Couple of thoughts based on previous comments: I have been circuit racing for 13 years now, and in that time have visited a few gravel traps and the odd barrier (oops) but they were all my own fault and did not involve any other cars. Also no other car has collided with mine. Before racing, I did 5 years of Sprinting, which for those who don't know, is you in your car against the clock doing a standing start lap around a racetrack or circuit laid on on an airfield or similar large space. I had one or two 'offs' but only damaged the car once. Before that I wasted 12 years drag racing but that's not even worth mentioning really. Too much money and hanging around for far too little time on track.
As for track days, I have been to a couple (not taken part) and driving standards were below bad. Comical in fact with many crashes. Driving on the public road is not without risks either, as I'm sure most here will have a story or two about that!
On balance, racing is the safest as we all pass an ARDS test before getting a licence, plus we all really want to do it in the first place or we wouldn't be there. Most are competent drivers who respect each other's cars and don't take stupid risks usually but it does depend on which club you choose to race with.
Yes, damage is possible when racing but it's far less risky than most think. How do you think I felt driving to my first race at 4:00 am in the pouring rain?
I know it's not everyone's cup of tea BUT I am sure it is the best fun you can have with your clothes on!
Cheers, Martin
