Car Details:Camaro RS 5.0 1988
Hi, I have an 88 manual 305 camaro which this weekend reached the end of it's clutch life.
I have stuck a kit on order with Rock Auto and hope it will reach me so i can fix at the weekend.
Has anyone done this job recently that could give me a rough idea of time and difficulty so i can decide whether to lay under it or coast it to a local garage ?
Ive got some ramps and pretty big axle stands but they dont leave loads of room.

Car Details:1986 Camaro, bought into Spain by me in 1993.
305 replaced by a 355, 750 Demon carb, RPM AirGap intake, Brodix heads, Hedman Hedders, 3" Flowmaster exhaust.
Wheels are Summit aluminium 5 spokes, tyres are 245 rear 225 front BF Goodrich.
B/M transmission, battery relocated to the rear, GoodMark 4" cowl steel hood.
Location:Spain East Coast
I´ve had my auto trans out several times, then replaced it with the car on axle stands.
Its a pig under there you just can´t move your arms around freely.
Even though the car was on flat ground my butt was doing half a crown-sixpence.

Location:Watford
Manuals are alot easier, if you can get it high enough off the ground you should find it straight foward.

thanks Rocky , have some ramps and big axle stands !
please can i ask 3 quick questions , how long would it take a garage ? what oil should i use to freshen up the gearbox ? is flywheel machining normally required / recommended ?

:chevy: I can now answer my own questions !
It took me and my son 5 hours all told ( better than a fathers day card ) including swapping about with ramps & trolley jack! ( my guess for a garage would be 4-5 hours labour)
The recomended oil seems to vary year to year but Dexron 11 (auto fluid) is what it said in the book and thats what ended up on the floor when we pulled out the box (red and smelly)
Being the impatient type i decided ( hoped ) the flywheel would be ok it had colouring from heat but not scored. The test drive was a relief its lost the judder that the old clutch has had since i got it.
Thanks go to Rock Auto, ordered monday delivered friday (economy fed ex & tax more than the clutch) £ 185 total.

Good work mate! If it's a WC T5 (looking at your reg it should be) then definitely use ATF fluid. If it's non WC use gear oil.
