3rd Gens look like old school muscle cars so will be visually and financially more attractive to new buyers.
I'd love to have stepped into a 2nd or 1st gen - but to be honest, I've loved the 3rd gen's styling for years. When I had the means, I took the plunge, and I love it. Drive it every day - it's my only car.

Interesting observation but of the few Camaro owners I`ve met they seem to be quirky enthusiast types that have a knowledge of American cars (thats why they have them) and the cars aren`t portrayed in the same way and as such could be less appealing........"It`s only a bit of bird $hit"........The wiping their hands with rags type isn`t a bad owner. Means they see to things needing seeing to.
Because I rely on my IROC to get me to and from work everyday, she needs to be functioning. So I prioritise jobs into the 'needs doing now' and the 'wouldn't it be nice if...' piles.
Slowly, but surely, I'm working through the kinks. There's a lot of new stuff under that bonnet, and at each corner, and under the floor...
What there isn't (yet) is a nice shiny paint job and new glass.

There's probably about 4-5 new Mustangs I see running around locally, and there was a yellow Z06 'vette parked outside a hotel on Friday. Someone else saw a C3 Stingray on saturday.
These are all cars people are sort of familiar with - the 3rd gen Camaro is a bit of a rare beast. I've seen two 2nd gens locally in the last 2 years. But another 3rd gen? Nope. And it gets noticed - whenever I take passengers, they usually comment that people are looking.
I love the shape, and as long as I get back what I paid for her, I'll be happy. The cash I'm spending now hopefully means that she'll be on the road in another 25 years, either with me or someone else. Although I hope it's with me...

I like the shape too. There was one for sale recently I nearly jumped at. The 4th gens `general` reliability record and th LS engine stopped me from splashing out. The 3rd gen last of the line 5.7s really tempted me. 91, 92s :)

As others have said, they are just in that slump.

I dont think the tax on the 4th gens is bad. My 2.0 clio is MORE. Any pre 2003 car will be on old rules.

MPG is Very good on 4th gens, especially LS1. You can get OVER 30 mpg on a steady drive, what else does that with 300 hp on tap? Better than 20 mpg if youre lucky older models

There will always be the camaro / mustang thing. Mustangs are marketed well and always have been. Plus they are in TV shows!!, camaros are not (new one is and GM are playing the game, but 5th gens not a camaro f-body anymore  )

As bigkieko said, there are a lot of 'polishers' out there. They dont know what they have as a car mechanically, they just know it shines up wel, and again the mustangs and TA's look muscular. In standard 4th gen form I dont think the camaros put up any competition really. Further more, as bigkieko knows from our discussions, I bought mine purely and simply because I wanted the fastest, most modable Yank in the running for with the best bang for buck factor. The LS1 camaro 4th gen wins hands down every time. Engine easily tunable, (ecu and mechanically wise), everything easy to swap, low service costs, engine responds very well to bolt ons, beats a mustang hands down out of the box. Can run into low 13 and very high 12's in the quarter with BOLT ONs. Heads and cam car and you have 11's already. Cant do that in a stang.

Anyway, I think I have made my point. Petrol head yanks buy camaros cause they are awesome. Regardless of generation. Thye give them a quick wash and drive them like they stole them haha
Most (not all) stang owners buy one as they look good, they are marketed as the working mans american car, and the owners can polish them and say 'yeah, i've got a mustang'
Corvette owners (most of them) are over 70 and would never go above 30 mph, they need to give their cars up and get a fiat or something crap
Ponticas are similar to corvette people, they have TAs that look like they can kick your arse, but they are too busy polishing them

(hope you guys found that funny, not being fully serious but i'm on a roll this morning :D )

I've owned a Mustang 5.0 GT a 3rd gen Z28 and my current one. I can say the 4th gen handles the best of the bunch followed closely by the 3rd gen. The 3.8 is a great little motor for a daily driver otherthan the trim being brittle( let's behonest most US cars suffer )
There is alway snobbery in cars scenes So I'm sticking with the prices are low due to the economy and give it a few years and they'll be commanding good money!!! :shh:

I have to agree with that. My 28 handles much better than I had anticipated. I was expecting the `$hite in the tide` experience like I`ve had on other yanks but no. Surprisingly well considering some of the twisty narrow roads up here.
