Car Details:Couple of '70 Mustangs
Tim, rules basically allow any treaded road legal tyre, and for our cars the max size is 225/60-15. No lower profile allowed. This is on a maximum 7" rim. So the usual is Yokohama A032R although 008R's would be OK too. What else is there? Don't see 008R's any more, just 032R's which I am OK with.
Does your mention of CSCC mean you are contemplating racing in the UK again? I take it you are looking at Swinging Sixties?

Car Details:1969 SS, originally a 396, now a 350. Never having raced an American V8 before, I am not the world's expert on Camaros ! But I read Road & Track and HotRod Magazine from the early Sixties (yes, it's the only thing I can rememberabout the 60s) and always wanted one.

Also race a 1965 Alfa GTA, and drive a 1938 Lancia Aprilia and a 1922 Talbot 8.
As Martin implies, the Yoko 008Rs are out of production now and 032s are now only supplied with the soft compound unlike previously when there was a range of compounds.

However the stiction on softs is good in the dry and very good in the wet, but they do not last long - two or three race meetings at most.

Martin and I had a cracking race at Thruxton (see Sportsroof post above), very evenly matched and looking forward to our next encounter.

Next meeting for me & Chev is May 18/19 at Silverstone, running the GP circuit, (poor man's Silverstone Classic).

I think the rules say any treaded 60 profile tyre hence the Yoko option!

I do have some NOS 008Rs and they suit the heavy Chevy far better than oo32rs which I use as wets - they go off in dry big time with a heavy car

We use the 008Rs in CSCC - same regs!

I too run on original wheel diameter 15 inch - and hence original brake sizes

Tyre sizes - no one makes a big enough tyre in 15 ! they all want 16 or 17 euro tyres and sizes

Toyo 235 50 15 888R are biggest size and too small for a Camaro- see my piece re Kyalami

Why do you say your car is heavy? Shouldn't weigh more than mine. We used to have a naughty Camaro (very illegal) racing with us and he used to complain that 032R's turned to butter towards the end of a race but I just put it down to the power and speed of his car rather than the weight. My car seems OK in 20 minute races at 1480 odd Kilos but then I don't have much power.......
Anyway it's better than not racing at all so I'll just keep on plugging away.

might be something to do with the age of my 0032Rs!! -

I think they might be 15 years old and still will not give up the ghost ! If you go (even) harder I think you might find the same thing!! Sarel toasted my 2008 Hoosiers in 25 minutes at Zwartkops!!
Who was the Camaro Hotrod I wonder........................

the key to racing is to be evenly matched with kindred spirits and preferably in different but compatible cars- sounds like you have just such a match there Mustang vs Camaro etc with chums.

the aim of most regs is to to achieve just this

I think you are right that the regs are generally formed to give close, even racing but due to some car's inherent superior design (Lotus spring to mind) there will always be (disproportionate) imbalances, plus the odd cheat in there to upset things. I think you know who the Hotrod Camaro driver was.... :think:
