I`m on the hunt for a clean 4th gen Camaro. Thing is, like most American cars they aren`t easy to find :wtf:

Are UK cars common? Are they a better buy than imports? Ideally I`d like an SS or a Z28 in manual but would take an auto.

Viewed my first one yesterday and to be honest, had a few things been different I could have been a Z28 owner.

Problem is, summers coming and I fear I`ll blow my cash on another Mustang :shh:

If the truth be told the one I did see (faults aside) went well and I was quite impressed with the performance.

There should be a sample of 4th gens out there. But all depends on budget, and if you want the LT1 or LS1 engine. Sometimes a matter of visual taste (the LS1s are facelifts) or because you'd want the all ali LS1 engine.
Again, manual or auto is of personal taste mine is pretty well modified now and goes like stink and is an auto. When crusing sat in top gear you wouldnt tell any difference between and auto or manual.

UK spec cars are few and far between and have fog lights in the bumper and side indicators. Not to my taste so I removed mine. They are insurance group 18 vs imports of 20, but if you have a specialist insurer then it wont make a blind bit of difference. UK cars come with more perks sometimes, so the TA style leather seats with separate headrests vs camaro all in one seats from US or Jap imports. Some UK spec ones seem to have higher springs on ie more of a 4x4 stance but a set of shocks and springs can quickly sort that. Most have usually been changed already. UK spec always have T-tops. excellent when summer sun is out.

Whats the budget? and where are you based? What are your plans for the car?
Plenty of mods for the camaro too, both suspension and engine wise that really do make a difference, they are so tunable (LS1). LT1 are but slightly more difficult ECU side.

Originally tossed between a camaro and stang, but for my plans etc the camaro always won hands down. Nothing better bang for buck with so much more potential

Maudy , thanks for the info fella. Yes. Budget is around £5k. I`ve only ever sat in one car and that was the LS1 99 Z28 I went to view. I liked the way it pulled from 70 on. From a dig its no quicker than a modular engined GT but definitely felt livelier top end. The last of the 3rd gen cars are bloody nice looking and there`s one for sale at the minute. Its a red 1992 350 and the owner posts on here. The last of the 4th gen cars look cool. I love the whole catfish front end thing and that, coupled to the LS1 motor makes them the best buy for me I think.
If the Z28 I looked at hadn`t had so many issues I would have made an offer. I know they`re rare (ish) cars and that but my gut feeling said the car had been neglected although it probably coud be brought back to glory with some time, effort and money spending on it.
I`m in Scotland so travelling approximately 1000 miles round trip to see a `not as advertised` car can be frustrating.

Any purchase will be used only during dry weather when possible and will be modded tastefully and properly cared for. I can`t stand butchered over tarted cars. I have a mate that buys cars and sticks that much $hite on them they`re ridiculous looking but hey, it`s his money. :?

The mustang looks nice (are we allowed to say that on a camaro forum hahah  ), basically that was what I was looking at and then got the camaro and the stang had gone. Although they don't feel faster from a dig, being less than a second difference in the quoted 0-60 time, I can assure you there will be a full car length difference, the LS1's dont give up either and will pretty much pull strong all the way up. If you viewed an auto they are a little more 'lazy' with the stock axle but with a gear set in the rear are so so so much more responsive. A stock auto in the 1/4 will be less than 14 seconds too, US autocar tested a stock Z28 manual on 91 fuel (in states like 97 RON stuff) and with lots of practice and some good tires got a 12.9X 1/4 out of it. Again, modding then makes it much quicker, there are the only cars i've done intake and exhaust on and noticed a clear difference. Mine dynoed 330 bp at the wheels with just bolt ons, no internal mods and consistantly ran 13s dead in the 1/4.

Anyhow, you should be able to get a reasonable LS1 car for that much. Depending on the 'faults' you mentioned a few will be easy fixes, some maybe not. If you have any questions send me a PM and I could try help you out. or the guys on here all have good input :D. Some are out there at silly prices at the moment too, but just keep an eye out. I travelled a 400 mile round trip (not as bad as you) to get mine and had already barted on the phone on a price assuming the condition was as we discussed. I did talk with the guy for a hour or so before hand and he was very genuine and an really nice bloke.

Good look hunting :D
